Do you keep your old stuffs, when you were kid, in your home?

Toys, pictures, why not your grandmother old jewelery, maybe your mother old coat, maybe your father old pipe? Is a place in your new and modern house for this kind of stuffs? Make this stuff to feel that you have a past, remember about persons who was very dearest to you, remember about your childhood, about when your mother was young, and a beatiful woman? We must keep in our houses only modern and actual "memories"?Or we must maybe just a old toy, or a old box with simple and cheap stuffs who make us what we are today? Modern life is all what we need or we must to keep a piece from past too? Something what we can show ours kid, and tell them who they really are, from what and who they are come from? So...burn old stuffs or just keep in the corner for ours memories?

Yes i do!!! I just don't have the courage to let them all go. My things take up the largest space in our house. I really feel like a part of me will be gone if I throw or give them away. I don't care if my room gets cramped, I would rather live in a tiny space than lose those imporant stuff. I read from one issue of Psychology Today that people like me have issues with our prefrontal cortex (a part of the brain)..lol i can't really remember the details..

There is a place in my room in fact in my cupboard where I put all the old stuffs over there such as my grandmother's belongings as chains, necklaces, photos, and then there are books by my grandfather too. I cherish all the stuffs I have though.

keep whatever u want with u. it is ur life and ur home. everyone should do what they want in their home, and decorate it they way they want. everyone has their own personal style. dont let other people try to change you. i like keeping old stuff because they r about me and my life. and it is who i am. it made me who i am today.

Hello icesmile :) well i think i still would keep it, i got a seprate room for my old stuffs where the kids cannot reach, whatever old and dusty stuff i have and i love them i dont feel like throwing them and know that they are of some good use to me later on i will always keep them to me. The another room who no one uses much and is out of reach of small children is a good place and ofcourse is of no harm.

I have a bracelet from my maternal grandmother, and a necklace and pendant from my paternal grandmother... I keep both my paternal & maternal grandmother's clothes in remembrance of them, and a set of my dad shirt and trousers too since all these dear person has gone to another world. I think those little item is very good in letting us leaving some memories. I also keep my first kinddie uniform, as a way to remember my first school... I think nowadays, we all keep quite a number of stuff as our first, and I also started to keep my baby's 'first' stuff such as her first pyjamas, the clothes she wears when we discharge from the hospital and so forth..

I have a lot of things from when I was a kid, also things that were my mother's, my grandparents, my great-grandparents, etc. Books, pictures, china, jewelry, etc. I hope I will be able to hold on to it and pass it down to my kids.

Yes, I do. I have boxes where i keep my childhood stuff inside it. And I also label who gave it to me when I was young and when it was given to me so I'd know how old that stuff is already being kept. Lol. I always treasure the simplest things given to me. Up to this time, I am keeping the oldest stuffed pillow my Mom gave me during my 8th bday. I still check it each week and say hi, how are you to it. I really love keeping old stuff I had before.

i kept the albums of old pictures. i was keeping most of them. there were pictures when i was young, as a baby sitting on my mom's lap, my dad on his motorcycleon the way to the office, me and my brother on the grilled window calling out to people passing, my mom on her 37th birthday blowing the candles, our family on the veranda of our new house, many others.. but they are all gone now when our house got burned. i have started to make a new one but its difficult to gather the old ones. i go around asking relatives if they have copies and then i borrow it and make copies. and it is very seldom that i find and it seems very difficult. i havent kept things my dad owned before. he likes to discard things and buy new ones and i think it is not nice to ask it from mom. she needs those memories. ann

Hi icesmile. I do not keep old things from old days. We had given them to kids who need it a long time ago. What I keep of my past memories are photos. I look at them from time to time to remind me of the good old days. It is nice to reminisce those times, happier times and moments that I had shared with family, friends.

Hee hee. I still have some of childhood items in storage - at my parent's house in my old room - hee hee!! I have nearly all my old children's books because I loved them so dearly . . . and some of them I have brought over to our place for my little one to put on her shelves. She can share in the stories that I used to love reading! My family isn't into family heirlooms and such, so we grew up feeling free to start anew. We didn't feel obligated or burdened to keep anything we really didn't want or if it were taking up room. But my husband's family has many heirlooms. Dishes, furniture, jewelry, even carpet/rugs . . . a lot of things around the house. They felt it was important enough to keep it and use it . . . so they've always worked with what they had. I think they intend to pass it down the family - but honestly the stuff is so old and no one wants it. It's possible the paint on everything has lead in it anyway - not safe for kids. There are some things I think are cool to keep from the past. But there's no point in keeping "everything" from the past . . . it's good to be free to make your own memories!!
