I know i shouldnt start a new discussion before i resolve the others but i just cant help myselfI was just outside lighting a cig., when i almost caught my freaking hair on fire!! hairs wayyyyy to long. and i thought..oooh.. one of these days. then, my mind wondered as it often does. I thought of The Honeymooners and Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) always saying to his wife, Alice,"one of these days,Alice, one of these days!!" and had to laugh. most wont even remember this as I was just a little girl myself and am 62yrs now. sometimes they still have it on tvland channel. Does your mind wonder like that? I've often wondered if im bonkers because mine does Have you ever had or almost had a really big catastrophe because of a bad habit?

hi james, Thank heavens it was in the room i stay in most of the time. I smelled something burning & i turned around in my computer chair & the trash can was smoking up a storm. I had a glass of ice tea sitting here & i grabbed it up& poured it in there. What a dork, huh? Was just glad i hadn't gone to bed. Thanks for your comment.

well i've even done that or else my ex did. we never figured out who. it was way back in early '70s when we used to prop a cig. on the sink sometimes, he to shave and i to just brush my long a$$ hair then. anyway, went into the bathroom and a cig had burned up to falling into the trash and was on fire.but we soon got it out.

Please do not take this the wrong way, it is truly meant in good spirit but I think that is one of the hazards of smoking that the surgeon general forgot to mention ! I am glad you are okay. I do remember the Honeymooners, Ralph was a real character!

I remember that and I'm younger than you are - 55 - but my dad liked the show (I hated it) I don't smoke, never have, so lighting my hair isn't likely

I remember the Honeymooners! Did you ever watch Jackie's show with Crazy Guggenheim and those fantastic dancers? How about Don Ameche's Circus World? Dean Martin? I loved all those shows. Later, I really liked Carol Burnett and I adore Red Skelton, what a loss to the world he is. I still listen to his radio show on the 1920's network over the internet on Saturdays and Sundays.

I remember the song, but not the melody or words, I just know I've heard it. My great aunt had all his albums and played them on her record player at least once a day in the evening. Remember record players?!

Like blowing up from being too, too fat? YAH! If you have seen History of the World you may remember the fat guy who blew up! Wasn't it in those or was it another of the Lampoon series? And what do I call it when this happens(can't remember things) a brain fart! My daughter gave me that one and I actually love it! Rock on!

"To the moon, Alice!!!" LOL...I fondly remember the Honeymooners, mostly from reruns on tvland or nick at night. I don't recall any catastrophes at the moment, but isn't it funny that you think of a tv show at a time like that? I'm a big fan of Dinner Impossible with Chef Robert. If you haven't watched it, you should. He does plenty of screaming and shouting, and I think of him frequently when I get upset. I guess the motto is that it's better to GIVE an ulcer that to GET one...lol.

"One of these days! To the MOON Alice!" LOL Don't feel bad, I love all the old black and white shows. For a while Nick at Nite has Burns & Allen, Mr Ed and the Honeymooners. It was my favorite night...

I loved watching the Honeymooners. I also watched the remake of it. Which was hilarious it had Cedric the Entertainer in it. I watched it on TVLand..along with alot of the other older shows. Like Sanford and Son..Little house on the prairie, highway to heaven, Bonanza and many more.

Are you kidding? for me it is a way of life. I have caught my body on fire,,,my hair on fire...my home on fire. I actually have too many examples that go way beyond the "fire" category. I'm just using the fire examples cuz that is what you used.

Hey bunny! I am lmao! You are still one of my favorite mylotter friends! Of course I remember the "Honeymooners"! I love that show! Even though I was young too I still remember them! I am only 5 years younger than you are! In fact, I went to school with "Nortons", Art Carney's son, Brian! We graduated from High School together! They lived in Bronxville, NY! I think his parents were divorced by then, I don't remember exactly! He was a good looking guy and really nice! And I have lit my hair on fire many times lighting ciggs! Usually my bangs!

I've always thought NY would be a great place to live. ever since i used to watch Ryans Hope in the 70's i thought it would be wonderful. seeing movie stars and all the beautiful archetecture.

This could be a sign. Maybe your body is trying to tell you that it doesn't want you to smoke anymore. I used to watch the Honeymooners when i was a kid. I can just see you on there nearly lighting your hair on fire. Then all of a sudden your mind is somewhere else. I'm sure a lot of us have these strange things happen to us and we forget to see the humor in it. As for mind wondering, My mind wonders all the time. It scares me sometimes. Bad habits are hard to break, so please be careful.

hi bunnybon7 oh dear that brought up a rather unhappy one of these days for me,and I am still living with the consequences of my dumb misstep. I over the past number of years had made it a habit to eat breakfast out ocassionally at my favortie restaurant. well often I came to the restaurant by a side street then used the backside sidewalk of the cafe to come around to the front.well in this piece of sidewalk on the backside was a sloping place where they often opened the back door and let out water they had used in mopping that back room.well sometimes the flat place onthe sidewalk was littered from the wind having blown in pieces of tree branches and other little debris. I often stepped uponto the slope to walk around the debris. but as I was 80 and wore a brace on myleft leg I knew it was not the safest of things to do. for one thing it was often slippery from I guess oil that had beenwashed out onto the slope. well this one day I did that thing of walking up onto the slope one time too many. I fell, as I had lost my balance because I had tripped over my shoelace. the fall was an unmitigated disaster. I landed on myleft shoulder, and when I tried to put my hands down to push myself up onto my knees, my left arm didnt wo rk at all. I thought I had just dislocated my left shoulder. the onlookers called the paramedics at once, and although I kept saying I m okay I just dislocated my shoulder, they insisted on taking me to the emergency room. good thing as the xrays showed I had not just fractured my shoulder I had actually smashed the bones so badly I had to have an artifical joint of plastic a nd metal put into my shoulder. so the consequences to this one of these days was a lasting disaster, I had months of physical therapy but unfortuneatly it did like to bring back full use of my left arm. so this will be with me for the rest of my d ays.

oh that is just so sad Hatley. i really feel for you. my hair is just way to long and i usually put it up but the wind was blowing and it was early and almost got it caught anyway, i know what you mean about falling. i fell on the pavement and broke my leg a few years ago. its strange how you dont feel the pain right away of a bad break. i even hobbled on my leg to the bathroom, but after i sat a while couldnt get back up. then realised it was broke its never been the same since either.

No, I have not had a really bit catastrophe because of a bad habit. I do remember the Honeymooners and can now see that look on Jackie Gleason face when he said one of these days to his wife Alice. It is making smile alot. I use to watch that show every night when it was on and wonder if Alice was going to every pop Ralph. It was very funny and very entertaining.
