NBA, The Dallas Mavericks, and Dirk Nowitzki

I am a die hard fan of the Dallas Mavericks for 8 years now or maybe 9. It saddens me that up to now they still haven't won a championship. But that doesn't affect my devotion and support to the team. My love and enthusiasm to the team started when I first saw Dirk Nowitzki play his rookie year with the Mavs. Yes, his first season with the Mavs. He hasn't played many games during that season but i saw his potential. I saw his talent. And i saw myself in him. He's a shy type of person. A modest one. Just like me. But I don't have his basketball talents. lol. He conquered all the obstacles to fulfill his dreams. I have witnessed Dirk Nowitzki's transformation from a nobody to a somebody. A role player to a star player. An all star to a super star. And captured MVP award in the NBA. He's now in his prime and soon he will retire and leave the mavs and nba. I want him to win a championhip ring as a Maverick. I hope he will. I thought when he will leave the Mavs via trade I wouldn't be a mavs fan anymore. When he will retire i thought i won't be an nba fan anymore. So just a thought, am i not a true nba fan? Not a true Dallas mavericks fan? But im sure im a Dirk Nowizki fan for life.:) Any Dallas mavericks or Dirk Nowitzki fan here? i'll be glad to know.:)

I have high regards for Dirk Nowitzki as an NBA player and former MVP. But my idol in the team is Jason Kidd. Nowitzki is a very prolific score outside the arc, in the paint, and in transition. At his 7-foot frame, he is a gargantuan defensive assignement for the opposing team. Jason Kidd is tremendous as a distributor of wealth for the team - pass to teammates before shooting the ball. Jason Terry is also one of NBA's prolific scorer. But why are the Mavs still searching for their first NBA title.
In my own assessment as an NBA fanatic, the Mavericks has only an offensive mindset game of basketball. As we can see, almost all of their players are great scorers. I think Josh Howard is the only decent defensive minded Mavs player right now. Yes, the Mavs are a bunch of young NBA players with complements of some NBA veterans. If these players will not be able to learn defense then, they will still languishing in the cellars seeking for their NBA championship ring. In 2006, they were able to reach the NBA finals against Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat. The Mavs blew some opportunities to win the game. Dirk missed a potential game tying free throws in the last second of game 3. The same thing happened with Howard in game 5 as he missed his charities for the winning margin.
The Dallas Mavericks is a great team, a great contender for its first NBA ring. However, they should make some improvements in their defense as a team inorder to win games. In the offensive side, they have lots of scorers to share the scoring load. The time is now to win their first NBA ring till Dirk and Kidd will hang their sneakers.

I also like kidd and i admire his play. He gives more mental toughness to the team. You're absolutely right about their lack of defense. I was very happy when i found out that they're trying to get Gortat from Orlando. But I was very disappointed of what Orlando did. Gortat would have brought the defense and offense they need from a center. Kidd would have thrown lobs on him. Dirk would have the center that compliments his skills. Good thing now they have Marion who plays defense and rebounds well. I agree with you. This season is there time. Dirk is in his prime and Kidd has only 3 more years left in his tank. Let's hope for the BEST!!! GO MAVS!!! :)

HEY!!!!!! Are you still there MAN! WE WON! WE WON! WE FINALLY WON!!! Hehehe. They learned to play defense and finally came on top of all. Dirk raised his game to another level where only a few reached and Kidd was a defensive monster so as Tyson and Marion. And Terry, he really came through and showed up when need. I'm so proud of my team. Thank you Lord. :)

i am also a mavs fan for different reason. i like dirk nowitzi, but i am a fan of jason kidd. when jason kidd moved to dallas mavericks, i became an instant fan of the mavs. like dirk, kidd is also pursuing a championship ring. last year, i saw the potential of the team to win championship. they advanced to the second round, and if not for the reluctance of the referee to call a foul on game 3, then the series with nuggest would have been a different story. i like the team's chance this season with marion and the core of the team. i wish them success this coming season.

you're absolutely right! i wonder why referees hate the dallas mavericks. is it because of Dirk coz he's white and not American? or is it because of Cuban coz he's rich and always whining? refs should be fair. dallas has been cheated many times now. remember the finals in 2006? it's ridiculous if you know what im saying. I do hope they will win a championship this season. I am also a fan of kidd and he just got a player to run and throw lobs at with marrion. Goodluck to our team :)
