Hi everyone.we all are well known that language is the best way of communication but in this world we have thousands of language. We all are from different countries with some different cultures and knowledge carring different languages too. How many languages u can speak? It is just a question but be sure that do you follow phonetics when you speak a language? Perhaps not everybody.
In this best social community of mylot, I want to share an idea for better result. We can exchange our languages at least some words or sentances so that we can increase our knowledge as well as a global communication. Is not it a nice idea. So are you interested in it. Please share. I know hindi, bengali, assamese except english. So lets exchange it with chinese, phillipino and so on….
Hope all of you come out to share…. Have a nice day

aside from english and filipino, i don't know other language, foreign language to speak with. although i am not perfect in english language, at least we can always improve it, as this is our main language of communication elsewhere.

I have a knack for languages, and i noticed it when we went to pondicherry for a sight seeing...I was hardly five then and within five days, I picked up a lot of tamil words and I could communicate with locals in broken tamil...Since i was in a convent school, english was a natural language and we were fined if we talked in any other language. Malayalam is my mother tongue and i speak it well, though I can write or understand very difficult malayalam literature. I am quite comfortable in English, i read a lot of enlish novel and watch a lot of English movies. It does help to improve your vocabulary and you can cath on with the british, american accent...You will get to know more about the world. Very few people speak english in the world...You go to europe, you will find it difficult to communicate in english. Learn german, spanish or french to communicate there...Also in China, less people speak english...We Indians have an inclination to english becauss eof our history with british rule...
Now I have been staying in Bengal for the last five years, and I speak bengali fluently...I cant write, but read a few alphabets...I should understand assamese and orriya...atleast a bit. Now I am better in tamil, though I cant say I am fluent in it yet...I do try to pronounce words as they should be, coz prononciation gives beauty to the language...

hi mapola. u are really a contrivance. i respect it. being a malayalam, u know the major languages of india including assamese. i am an assamese, i know bengali too and well skilled in it. yes, english is not common on the entire globe. i have found a mylotter from serbia. she said that english conversation is very rare in serbia, perhaps entire europe. do u know assamese, bengali, oriya and nepali are from same root named by " magadhi prakrit" so there are some smililarities which is more easy to learn. i know few words and sentances from nepali and oriya but i can understand nepali. above all i understand bhojpuri and punjabi too, not so much but i can. thanks

I am happy and educated to know that the root of Bengali and Assamese are magadhi prakrit. Hindi according to Kamata-Prasad Guru is supposed to be the development of the Souraseni Prakrit. I know about 7 Indian languages apart from English. They are English,Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu,Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Urdu. I can read write and understand all these languages. For speaking purposes in order of fluency: It would be English,Hindi,Telugu,Tamil,Sanskrit,Malayalam and Urdu.

Thank you, but I am not worth that praise. knowing these languages doesnt help me much except in watching their movies and interpretting them hi hi..I was planning to learn a foreign language like german/spanish/french. It has remained a plan ever since I conceived the plan hi hi...Actually I dint know about the word you mentioned, but if you see I found it easier to learn languages because of the common threads. Like malayalam, hindi, bengali have words which are in Sanskrit too, only the prononciation changes...Also if you notice neighbouring states have similar words or languages, So I could catch up tamil easily...Obviously they have diffrent names for vegetables and stuff like that still...See In assamese for salt you use nimok/noon/lovong etc...In hindi they say namak. Bengalis say noon/lovong. Got my point...Make a comparative study and it will be easier..I havent heard nepali, so cant comment on it...

I speak Japanese - I learned it throughout high school & uni. My tip to learning & speaking another language well is to think in that language whenever you speak or write it - it's much easier than thinking in your own language & then translating to the language you are trying to speak.

I'm a Chinese so I could speak Mandarin for it's our official language. I could also speak Shanghai dialect which is my mother tongue. I regard it as a language for it sounds quite different from Mandarin, which is more than the differences between English and French. I could speak English for it's a compulsory lesson from elementary school to university. My English level is not as high as Mandarin and Shanghai dialect, but enough for me to do daily communication. I could speak a little Japanese and German, but narrowly limited to greeting.

Simon, Chinese can only be learnt by listening to the native speaker directly I am told. I am also told that Chnese language has meaning encoded in intonation, too like in Vedic Sanskrit I am told. Is that right. Chinese script is more of sentential collection than words. Are my ideas right or are they all some noisy non-sense picked up.Please clarify.

hi shibham
Generally speaking, Chinese means writing and Mandarin means speaking. Currently there are two writing systems of Chinese: Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The former system is adopted in China mainland and the latter in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Mandarin is the standard language of China, which is based on Chinese northern dialects. To some extent I think the position of it in China is like Hindi in India. In South China, there exists several large dialects, including Wu dialect, Hokkien and Cantonese, which is similar to the situation in South India.

I know English very well even though I am from India but here I am learning some languages like Hindi, Telugu, which I don't know properly but as I know English very well we could share thoughts in English and I also know Urdu which is actually my mother tongue. It is a really good idea indeed to communicate and share thoughts with each other in different languages as we will come to know other languages better and when somebody of that place visits us, and in case he/she doesn't know our language we could interact with him/her in his/ her language.I really appreciate your idea.
Have a nice day!

Its really good that you respect languages. I really appreciate this. And when you are saying Urdu the father of Hindi, that's very thoughtful indeed. And yea Hindi has taken a lot of words from Urdu and maybe it has also taken some words from Hindi as well as Arabic, as much as i know.
Have a nice day!

I am a jack of all languages but master of none! . I am quite a linguist, not bragging but I do speak a number of languages and our local dialects here. English is one that I am probably quite comfortable in my daily conversation besides our national language and a splattering of few chinese dialects. My mother's tongue is called 'Kadazan' and to say 'Good morning' in my mother's tongue is 'kotobian doungosuvab' and in our national language it is 'Selamat Pagi'. Interesting to exchange greetings here in different languages.

I noticed the similarity. LOL Since I live in a multi racial country, learning other races languages becomes easier. When I am with the chinese, I am mistaken to be one of them as I interact with them in their language. It is good to know languages as you will not be lost where ever you go. When you can speak another language you will always feel comfortable in their midst.

hi zandi, yes u are right. if i say someones native language on their certain country, then i definitly feel homely which will lead to become more comfortable. and again it is very easy to learn different languages if you live in multi racial country. i am deprived from it, in my locality some certain languages is speaked. so i am just curious to learn languages through mylot. thanks again

hi zandi... at least you are a jack. hahaha...
i am really surprised that u know number of languages. it is a hard task to learn various languages equally. we never use english in our daily conversation. it is assamese, my native language. "good morning" can be rendered to assamese as "shuva ratipuwa", in hindi it will be "suprabhat".
please notice, in khadazan language u have mentioned a word "doungosuvab". "suva", these four letters are existing similarly in assamese" shuva".
what is your national language?
thanks for response. lol..........

If at all one can improve by reading it on mylot, one could improve English language alone, provided as a non-native speaker of English you know to recognise good English from bad. If you can do that there are some very good native english writers over here whose style is just about right for modern communication.
As the poster above me said there is not nuch a native speaker could gain here on myLot in Language Skills. If at all they do, they could pick up an idea or two about organising their thoughts. If they are already good writers that would come naturally to them.
Further, if you are thinking of spoken language then here there is very little one can convey on phonetics through a totally written communication site like this. You may able to get references for sites from some people.

Dear friend,
As English here is mostly used as a common language for communicating to tourists and foreigners. Apart from this I could speak Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. All these languages of Indian languages. But to know an additional language is always a merit side. Here those who know foreign languages are in high demand especially in translation departments and call centers.

MyLot is definitely a great place to sharpen your English language skills. Unfortunately for us native-English-speakers, we really don't get to much out of it in terms of "improving" - because we're not allowed to start or respond to any discussions in any other language than English. I'm learning Japanese, and could use some help with improving my skills - but I won't find that on MyLot. And I honestly don't think that anyone's language skills are 100% perfect, not even people who have been exposed to it their whole lives. But I definitely think that everyone has at least a little room for improvement.

hi maezee..
as english is an intenational language we are obliged to speak it. it is essential for a world tour too. but i am confused about those non native english speakers who speak english according to grammer not according to phonetics. i think it is important to learn or speak a language through phonetics, is not it? yes no one is 100% perfect in their lingustic skills.
except english, do u know any other language? if u want to learn hindi, bengali or assmese, then i am here. thanks for response. have a nice day.
