Hello Everyone! I have been presented with a great opportunity to study abroad in Spain for a month. I really want to go because I feel that I can gain lots of life experience and education. My parents, however, don't think that I have what it takes to do it. They pretty much laughed in my face when I told them about it.
There are lots of things that worry me about traveling to another country, but I feel that I might regret it more if I don't go and sit at home wondering what could have been.
I want to know what you guys think. Are my parents discouraging me because they're trying to protect me? Should I take the plunge and study abroad in Spain? Give me your thoughts and comments.

Wow congratulations!that's a wonderful opportunity for you to study abroad, if I will be given a chance to study abroad then I will go with it no matter what it takes. Well, your parents maybe are just joking or just teased you but of course all parents will be happy in their children's success. Just explain to them the advantages of studying abroad and promise them that you will behave all the time.lol!

Thanks! I think my dad is softening up to the idea. I've been trying to reassure them that everything will be fine. I'm very responsible here so there's no reason why I wouldn't be responsible in Spain. Plus, I'm coming up with all the money to go so they don't have to give me any financial support.

i guess you have to go because you are lucky enough because you had the opportunity to go abroad to study. You're parents are not encouraging you, they just felt that you will be away from them and they will miss you a lot. Its really up to you if you will go or not. Follow what your heart says.

when my daughter asked my permission to look for a job in a far-away place in our country, i really discouraged her to go. it is because that place is rebel-infested and lots of bombings and terrorist attacks happen in the neighboring towns. i feel for the safety of my daughter and the thought of being away from her and not being able to see to her health and safety issues as readily as i can if she is just around.
that maybe one of the reasons ur parents discouraged u to go and study in spain. i haven't been to spain but i would surely say it is a safe place to go as i haven't heard anything to the contrary.
go, go, go! as u say, take the plunge and study in spain. it is a rare opportunity and it is only for a month. tell ur parents it will be for a short duration only and u will be back as soon as ur done with ur studies there.
they say, opportunity only knocks once, so go!

Thanks for the advice! Sometime it's just a little scary going off far away from home. I'm so use to my parents being there if I need help, but it'll be a growing experience for me.
