"Best response" should be put to vote?

Often we see deserving answers go unnoticed by the poster as he/she leaves the discussion unresolved.. There have been lot of discussions about choosing best answer, leaving discussions unresolved.. likewise. Have you ever thought of leaving this job to the other members? Given that one can't vote for himself this should work.. It should be like this : if no: of days of inactivity over a topic is more than certain limit and no: of responses are also considerably high [can set a limit for that also.. - for instance if 10 or more responses - likewise], choosing best answer should be put for vote.. Or the response with most no: of "+" ratings should be given the best response. What do you think about this idea?.. As we all know this system is followed by many of the question - answer websites. Why can't we do it here.. with lot of dedicated, sincere members it should be a great success for sure!

i think this is a fantastic idea. i leave off putting the best responses in for a long time - usually because there are several equally good contenders. then when i do decide to do them it becomes really tricky to decide. maybe a month of no activity - then decided by pluses.

Yeah.. I also always feel like being injust to give a particular person the best answer when most responses are equally good!

I object this idea. Simply because it's unfair for people who response last. The more response a discussion get, people will become lazier to check the next page to view other people response. Even I usually only see the first 5 posts and then skip to response the discussion directly. This voting system would be more like first come first served, first responses will be the one which always get the BRs. Besides, the topic starter is the only one who can choose the most correct answer to his/her question or topic, which might be overlooked by people or might seem regular to anyone else, but meant something and very useful to the topic starter. It may be a little bias, but I think every system has flaws right?

That is ofcourse a major problem that we tend to vote for someone among the first ten responses being reluctant to view the rest. As you said every system has flaws. The system can be modified to cover up..Thnx for the suggestions..

Well, some of us, like me are quite busy so I am often way behind when it comes to choosing a Best Response. I know that some of mine I am resolving now are 6 months old or older even. Personally I feel that it is a thing that is of some discussion, but would everyone agree with who is chosen as a Best Response if everyone had a say? I guess this is one to be considered in both directions as well. Because would we have a choice who to give it too, and maybe after so many people have chosen the same one, then the winner is chosen? It is an idea.

Hi! It is not a bad idea per se and in a way it will give a fair chance to the one whose response deserved to be rated as the best one. You are right that some sites, like Yahoo answers, follow the system of 'voting' the best response. However, it will largely depend upon mylot authorities, whether they are ready to experiment with this idea.

yeah.. Yahoo answers is what inspired me to post this topic here. There can be changes as suggested (by the responses above) as myLot is more than just question-answer, but debates and discussions. Lets hope the admin see this!

This is a good idea. The only problem I can see is, certain discussions invite some good posts, but they may not be good enough to satisfy the quest of the discussion starter, although they may be liked by others (hence getting lots of + and comments). I think it is still very fair for the discussion starter to have the power of picking up the best response as he only knows what he is looking for. However, one good option can be to allow a discussion starter to choose if he picks the best response or the other users or the system does working on the lines of your ideas!

hi aravindkrd so You think that other people have a better idea of how you should have marked your own best response to your discussions,I do not like this idea at all. let the person who posted his discussion pick out who He wants as best response, after all it is his or her discussion, what the heck right do you or anyone else have to tell me how I should see the responses to my discussion.keep mylot free, not enslaved to others. Nobody but me knows what I think of each response my discussions receives. no let it the hell alone. it works,it is not broken so why try to fix it?

Its up to an individual... that's why I mentioned this should be applied to ignorant people who never give best answers and willing people like "jb78000" - who mentioned above that this method would help when most responses are equally good (that the user finds it very difficult to pick a single response as best). and.. I'm not trying to fix broken myLot but just suggested some changes. Thnx for your views..

Well, in my opinion, it is better to leave it just the way it is because the concept of a "Best Response" here is clearly meant for the creator of a particular discussion to reward the one and only member who s/he thinks deserves it.
