How did you meet your best friend?

I know many of us probably met our best friends through work or school, but I'm always curious and enjoy bringing this topic up at parties, because sometimes people have some really great (and funny) stories about the way a passing acquaintance or total stranger turned into a best friend. Both of my best friends are former roommates. My friend C and I worked together in the first town I lived in after high school. Neither of us could afford to live on our own, so we shared a divey little apartment. She became the older sister I never had, while I was the younger sister she never had. We have so many things in common, and she is one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. Even though she eventually moved back across the country to her hometown, we've constantly kept in touch via phone calls, letters, email, texting and Facebook. When she got engaged to her now husband, I was the first person she contacted and I made my first trek across my own country for her wedding. My other best friend (R) was a guy my ex roommate, D, was interested in. D had talked up R to me when I brought up bringing in a third roommate, so I met him and immediately liked him. To R's credit he always rejected D's advances, knowing how awkward that would make things in the house. Even when D turned out to not be a great friend or roommate, or our lives weren't working out the way we'd hoped, R and I stuck by each other and got through it together by having 2 am picnics on the living room floor, taking long walks in the rain or setting the lawn on fire (whoops) -- anything silly and slightly insane to keep our minds off the big problems in our lives. He's now one of the only people that knows every one of my secrets, desires, passions and dreams. I would trust him with my life. So how about you? How did you meet your best friend?

Hanging around town when I was about seventeen years old. He's still my best friend and that was over 40 years ago. some things do work, as they say, and some friends are forever. I've had friends live out their lives and pass on but others just stick with you, it seems, for a full lifetime.

People always consider that with a close friend, you will not be regretful to spend your life. It is very important that we have one or two true friends in our life to accompany whenever we have anger to leak out, happiness to share or dreams to target. In my life, I have one close friend that is better than my boyfriend. If she confront with any difficulties, I will spare no efforts to help only if I am able to. Surely, she will treat me the same if I have. Sometimes you will be courious why our emotion can be so deep, and sometimes it is hard to dig out from when the trustness is to be built. Maybe the predestinated relation counts.

Best friend A is my best friend since elementary. She was my classmate since 1st grade until high school. Then we met bestfriend B in high school. We had so much in common. I consider them sisters. Even though I left and transfered to another place, we still stay in touch. In college, I met so many friends, some of them are very close to me that I also consider them as my best friends. Most of them are my groupmates. We shared so much, (fun, laughter, tears) that I also consider them as close to sisters.

I meet my bestfriend when I was in my primary grade. We live on the same area and goes to school together everyday. She came from a different province and speak a different dialect when I first met her. Since I am the one nearest to her place with the same grde level, my parents asked to go with her every morning when going to school. We did have a seldom fights over some petty things before but that only makes our bonding stronger. She is the only person I can talk to about anything withough a fear of judgement or sarcasm no matter how silly the topics are. We separate ways when we go on secondary school and college but got a chance again to be together when we are working. It does not change our camaraderie despite of the years that had passed. We are now again apart as we are both working overseas in different countries but we make it a point to have a constant communication through emails, social networking and sometimes a phone call. I have only one best friend I have in my whole life except of course my husband who I consider now my closest buddy.

Some people might think that this is weird but i met my best friend online. We had alot in common , we have birthdays in the same month mine in the 24 and his the 25. We were too shy people who held back and didn't share parts of ourselves with people but after a while we told each other everything, secrets, passions, desires, likes, everything and the thing is he's a male and i'm a female and yet we talk about anything and help with each others relationship. So now its not only online anymore and we friends in real life. So thats how i met my best friend.

Hey bree! I loved you "best friend" stories! I have had a few best friends in my life since I am quite a bit older than you are! My first bf and I met in day camp when we were 10. We stayed friends for 45 years until she just couldn't get that she was just too mean and miserable for even me to put up with and I finally had to cut her out of my life and that was 2 years ago! My other bf I have known for about 28 years and we still are really close even though we live in different states and he is gay! I love him! We talk at least once a week! I have another friend who I have also known for over 20 years who I am still pretty close too who also lives in another state, but we don't talk as often, but when we do it's like we just talked yesterday and I love her too! Now I have 1 person in my life that I have known about 8 years that I am sort of close with, but don't trust completely and 2 others that I do trust and known only 2 years, but do consider my best friends and one is my friend Debbie and the other is my boyfriend Lonnie that I live with both that I met while in Rehab! So I have a few people that I still consider best friends, and some that are close friends but, not best. And things change from day to day because I have 2 friends from the past that have come back into my life that I was very close to and don't know what will happen with them!

i met my two best friends in quite the common ways. my girl best friend and met when my other friend got us together for a dance show we had to do at our college. she looked the kinda girl i wouldnt get along with, over-styled, make-up done and stuff. i kept thinking to myself how could i get along with her? then i found that she doesnt do the make-up and stuff all the time, just occasionally. and she was a really good dancer, that helped a lot. slowly we became inseparable and did everything together, and constantly talked on the phone. my parents got irritated by how much i talked about her and that too constantly... my guy best friend, i met at another audition i was giving for a talent show our tuition were organizing. we were both selected to be the hosts for the show. our names are super similar, both in words and meaning. we got along like a house on fire. we talk on the phone all day, every minute we get the time, still to this date... its over a year now, but i couldn't tolerate the thought of life without him. both my best friends are great. they support me, cheer me up, make me laugh and although sometimes due to uncontrollable reasons we are out of contact for a few days, but then we talk once and it's like there never was a break in the communication... they are my life...

It is a good question. My best friend is a very nice person. We used to work together. She is a very calm person who patiently listens to whatever I want to talk. She always have some suggestions or solutions to the problems I have. She is very sweet and helps in all my deeds. Now, she is working with a different company, but we meet once in a while.

I met my best friend in college. We both did the same subject and we found we were very very similar in many ways, almost to the point where it was freaky! We then went to the same University doing the same course (after we got the same grade at college!). In our first year we lived next door to eachother and then for the following two years we lived in a house together with someone else to, but we are the closest. Unfortunatley, I moved from England to Australia last month so it is unlikely we can be best friends for much longer. we try to stay in touch but i am practically the other side of the world from him now :(
