I have discovered a new love that I am addicted to. It is PaperBackSwap.com. Are there any members here?
If you never heard of it you can swap books, not just paperback, hardback or audio too. You list ones you have to swap and you can purchase other listed books for one credit each. You get a credit everytime someone chooses one of your books and receives it. You also get 2 free credits after posting 10 books of yours to swap.
There is no charge for the service or the books. The only charge is the shipping you pay when you ship one of your books off. Though they go media mail which usually only cost a little over $2. When you order a book from someone else they pay the shipping.
So, basically you are really getting a book for only a couple dollars. I just got several books from my Amazon list that were $10 or $15 over there.
If you don't have any books start with you can buy credits, so you can get some books to start off with. A credit is $3.45 each.
The program is only availble for the U.S. right now.
If you haven't joined you can go to paperbackswap.com or you can click on the blue ad on my profile. Signing up through the ad will get me one credit after you post 10 books of your own. But, you don't have to use it I just want more and more people to sign up anyway they can so the choice of books will grow.
Does anyone else love it as much as I do? I am waiting on a few books right now. I hate how media mail is so slow. I told myself to stop looking for more books cause I can only read so much at a time.
I find it a lot easier than some of the other swap sites and it is a great community. I can't imagine anyone who loves to read not loving this site, but I guess there could be .

I remember reading about this site a long while back. There was a blurb about it in our local newspaper. I did check out the site but I didn't really get around to thoroughly looking into it. But it does sound like a really interesting concept. I have a bunch of books laying around that I don't know what to do with. I was just thinking about ways I could get rid of them the other day. So, I'm really glad that I came across this topic today. This might actually be the solution I'm looking for. Thanks a bunch. I'm definitely going to check out this site again now.

It is a great place to find new homes for your books and if you like to read you can get new ones to read. They give you 2 free credits after you post 10 books you have to swap. One credit is worth 1 book of your choice or 2 credits for an audio book.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I've been a member of Paperback Swap for several years, and I love it. Whenever I want a book that's been out for a while, that's where I look first, instead of buying right away. I'm waiting for a member to acknowledge a request for a book right now, but it look as if they aren't going to. It happens once in a while, but not often. Usually, I get the book within a week or two. So far, according to my account stats, I've saved $157.00.
I tried one of the other swap sites about a year ago, and could never find anything I wanted, so I quit. Paperback Swap is the best site, as far as I'm concerned.

Did they acknowledge it yet? That would be disappointing when someone doesn't acknowledge a request. I heard that sometimes people don't put there accounts on hold when they aren't able to swap and then a request gets ignored. Wonder if that happened?!
Yeah I just got 2 books coming from completely different places and they both got here aroung the same time and only took 4-5 days. I consider that lucky since media mail could take longer.
I find Paperback Swap as the best set up and so far found the selection to be pretty good.
Happy swapping!

Oh yes, we, or rather my adult daughter whom I live with, have a paperbackswap account. It's a great place and it's helped to introduce us to authors that we would not have found otherwise. Plus my daughter loves Halloween and she has gotten some great Halloween books through them. They also have the swapaDVD site too, have you checked it out? We've gotten some cool DVD's through there.

Yeah, because of it I read authors that I might not have otherwise even noticed. The way it is it makes it so easy to just pick any book that catches your eye instead of worrying about a price.
I signed up for swapadvd and swapacd too. But, I haven't used any of the 2 yet. I saw a few dvd I would like. The problem I don't know if I have any I want to swap. I might buy a credit or 2 to start out with. I like how the sites allow you to buy credits.

I have heard of this site, but I don't know much about it. I have some paperbacks I could swap, but I need to find some that I want to read. I like to read but once you have read something I dont see much point in keeping it around. It seems really pointless sometimes.

That is one of the good things about the idea of the site. After you read a book you can post it on there and if someone wants it you send it to them and you get a credit for any book listed on the site. 1 for 1 kind of thing. You can even repost the books you get from the site and continue the circle.
If you go to the site you can browse through the site and see the books that are currently available. You don't have to register to view the books available. If there are specific books you want and they are not availble you can put them in your wishlist and they will notify you when they become availble (You do need to register to have a wishlist though.)
I hope you enjoy it like I do, if you decide to try it.

Thanks for sharing this site. I do not have an account there but plan to check it out very soon. I love to read and have finished all the books in my house. I have been contemplating selling them to make a few dollars but may look at this site as an answer.

Your welcome! Selling is a good option too with sites like half.com and amazon. I thought about that too for some of mine. Some books don't go for much and seem to have a lot of competition on those sites. The great thing about paperbackswap is if you can't get much for a book you could post it on there and at least get another book to replace it if someone wants it. It is an alternative if you can't sell them.
I hope if you visit the site you get as much out of it as I do!

I share your enthusiasm. I love Paperback Swap, and have been using it for awhile now. I can't keep up with the reading, so I tend to use it in spurts. And sometimes I receive books in bad condition, so it's not a perfect site, but overall my happiness with trading books (and saving money) far outweighs any problems I may have had.
I certainly encourage everyone I know to use the site. Most people (including myself) do not read a book more than once. Of course, there are exceptions, but with a lot of fiction, I would rather share the wealth, pass the books along, and get some new ones to read. It also takes the sting (cost) out of paying for something you normally wouldn't pay good money for, but still might enjoy. Chick lit, for me.
I still buy books, but I have saved a lot using this great Internet site.

You can report a book in bad condition, and I have done that. It takes quite awhile for the site to follow up, but they do eventually, which I think is all you can ask. I am sure that they have a small staff. They also have member-helpers that you can pose questions to. They are very kind...and helpful if you ever run into something you can't find an answer to on the site.
I do enjoy the wish list as well.

Yeah, I was going there all the at first, trying to find a new book. But, I did realize that I had some to read so I needed to at least read those first. You could only read so many at a time.
I haven't gotten a bad condition book yet, but I haven't gotten too many yet. So, I expect that eventually I will. By what I hear some people don't read the rules. They don't have to look new, but just a few basic stipulations to their condition, not much.
It is a great way to save money if you like to read!
