Help, my friend with cancer can't keep food down for a week after chemo.

She's taking the medicine that is supposed to help her keep from throwing up, but that isn't working (she's probably throwing that up, too). So did you have, or do you know anyone who had, the same problem and conquored it? What did you do? I will be looking on the internet as well as here, but I wanted to know from someone who experienced it. She's very discouraged.

She needs to incorporate some royal jelly into their diet. It is very good for her. Soothing.

Will that keep her from throwing up? As soon as she eats or drinks something, it hits her stomach,it's back up again (I was just there today and I'm not kidding or exaggerating). I can try that. I'm willing to buy anything to help her.

That is appropriate, unless she has pollen allergies, then it will make it worse, from what I have seen. I also think that honey is good, in tea or on its own.

She needs to call And talk to these people. Dr. Richard And Cindy Becker. They are on a show called Your Health on cable. They talk about people in these situations all the time. The website is: http://www.bioinnovations.net/home.asp and you could call them to order their books i would recommend which are: Health and Nutrition Secrets by Russell Blaylock, M.D.,Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Dr. Patrick Quillin and Foundations For Healing by Dr. Richard Becker. She needs to be giving herself heavy duty nutrients right now but in a soothing way. The chemo is killing any nutrients she has going in. The jelly has heavy duty B-vitamins in it which she needs. Like high doses of Vitamin 12 for instance. Also need to have her start using the Aloha Noni Juice, and the rice blend might be good for her. Flaxseed oil too which kills cancer cells. there is another one but I can't remember what it is called. All these things are chuck full of nutrients but the two latter books i mentioned would be a great way to start.

My sister found that mashed potatoes helped. She also did well with onion bagels and cheeze whiz. Go figure. After her treatments she could not stand to have any kind of sausage cooked in the house or she would throw up. I think it is up to what works for the individual. That means once something stays down, she should stick with it, whatever it is.

When I had gallbladder problems, I had the same thing with sausage. I can't believe onion bagels and cheese whiz, wow!

Has she had her gallbladder checked? Smell of sausage cooking kills you when you have that. Couldn't even drive by places that cooked with fat.

I've been very fortunate not to have any kind of cancer or chemo so I don't have any experience in this dreaded disease. I have known people who suffered worse from the side effects from chemo then the actual cancer. Probably best for your friend to call her doctor and see if there is something else he/she can prescribe. I do have a close friend with cancer now but she seems to have little to no side effects from her weekly chemo therapy. Am so sorry your friend is going through this and all you can do as a friend is be very supportive and understanding.

Our friend has a shunt and the injection is made directly into the shunt. She has liver cancer. Went from her kidney to her liver. She looks great and there is no way anyone can tell she's sick. Just some weight loss. Hope your friends gets things under control and feels better soon.

Yeah, I've never seen anyone go through so much for a week after. She only has chemo once a month. I think she did go back once and say something. I'll have to talk to her. Yeah, lots of chemos are actually poison. Wouldn't want chemo unless they could inject it into the tumor. Kill that thing, not me.

First of all, my sincere deepest sympathy for your friend, and for you to have to watch your dear friend, and care at this of most difficult times! I haven't read the other replies....but knowing you, and your diverse knowledge, I am sure that you have already tried fresh ginger/honey tea! Done repetitively, even tho "up chucking it"...seems to build up, the little that is absorbed each time and eventually calm the stomach! I am just recovering from a miserable bout of the flu (8 days..not H1N1) but I just kept drinking the tea, it gave me something liquid, and did work! Please know that my prayers are with you!

Thank you, I think we're going to need a lot of prayers for this one. They get rid of one cancer and another one pops up. Depends on the ginger to honey ratio or how it's done. Some ginger teas are soothing, but some are caustic to the stomach. I generally use the ginger tea to clear my sinuses and it's fantastic for the flu! I'll add it to the list. I don't generally upchuck during the flu, during viral gastro-intestinal mess, I do. I'll have to try a gentler ginger/honey tea, maybe one with camomille and see how that works out. Maybe that would work for her. She has sooo many teas, I wonder what she has tried during that one week per month.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I've had cancer 9 times, and the chemo always does this to me. The doctors make me drink Boost or Ensure, and they say enough of it will stay with me for appropriate nutrition if I drink one each time I barf. Well, I guess enough stays, because I'm not only OK, but I gain a lot of weight each time. I wish I had a better answer.

Wish I could give more than one best response. You lived it and it worked for you. No better answer can be given. Your experience is your answer. I'm sorry you've had it so many times, but I'm glad you're still here. My Mom had it 5 times and she isn't. So 9 times is amazing and great that you are here. Thank you very much, I will pass the information along. It means more coming from someone who has had similar experiences, I assure you. Take care and thanks.

Writer, I am so sorry for your friend. Cancer is so cruel. From my experience with friends and a loved one, the only thing that helped was smoking some wacky tobacky if you know what I mean. It really helps. Leenie

Every year, a lot of us have to sign petitions to keep herbs in our backyard like dandelions from being illegal to use as medicine. Dandelion root makes a good diuretic, just as good as the pill they give me, but they want to outlaw everything except pills.
