Flu shot time already...

A year passes in a hurry! I have to go to the drs. tomorrow to get my yearly flu shot...not for H1N1 yet...that isn't ready, but for whatever strain won this years flu-shot award. Have you gotten a flu shot yet? If not, will you be getting one this year? Are you getting both, or at least the one for H1N1 when it becomes available? There have been delays on making enough serum in the US. How about where you live? Karen

Hello Jo. My docs office actually called to set me a time to get the shot this year. I opted out last year, and as I have "lung issues," he wasn't too happy about that. They're still debating about getting the H1N1 serum, but I did get the regular one today. Hm, so he just took matters in hand last year? Well, good lol. We can be stubborn patients at times :) Hugs, Karen

I have not got the flu shot yet. I am waiting for that. I have been reading the newspaper every morning to check when and where the flu shots will be available. I had the flu shot last year. I sure will have it this year as soon as it is announced. I do a lot of traveling. So, the flu shot is really very necessary wherever one travels.

Hello Green. Oh yes, if you travel then it's extra important! I'm still waiting for the H1N1 to be available here, but I did get the regular one, as I have "lung issues" and am getting up there in years LOL. Take care on your travels! Karen

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, I fully understand your theme of discussion. I remmeber, while my hubby was in Armed Forces, there used to be regular Innoculation and vaccination administrated to all soldiers and proper records maintained. I remmeber, if we are going to our home town, and if cholara is broken, we used to get that anti- dose for taht and tehn only our leave travel used to recommanded. But after leaving service, this practice ha sbeen forgotton. Now-a-days, we take as and when there is a requirement of same. So there isnothing pre-scheduled here. But, I think it is very important to safe guard ourselves against many diseases. Thank you Karenji May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, So nice of you for considering me 'Wise'. I always consider 'HEALTH IS WEALTH' . A healthy person can always reduce medical bills. I remeber sometime back , I had posted regarding cure and precautions from SWINE-FLU with Tulsi plant. It is always better to take precautions much in advance, before it gets too late. May god bless You and have a great time.

You are wise, my friend, to take precautions as they are advised and become available. There is much H1N1 flu in my area, but the vaccine is slooowww to arrive! So we trust our health to God in the meantime and do not worry as there is nothing to do for the swine flu at this time, but to maintain all around good health and hygiene habits. Take care...best regards, Karen

Are you getting a flu shot because you have a high risk factor or because you are being cautious? Have you ever not had one and not gotten the flu or vice versa? Just curious...

High risk factors, ugh. Nope, I've been getting them for 10 years now on the advice of my physician, and I've never been sick or gotten the flu afterwards. Karen

A doctor on the news yesterday said it actually takes a couple weeks for you to be protected which is why some people still get the flu. Also there is more than one kind and that means more than one vaccine is necessary.

Hi Karen.. On days ago I often had the flu and it makes my nose stuffy. After I check a doctor about the flu that I suffered, there is said in the symptoms of polyps in the nose and it makes me scared.. Factor, I am allergic to dust and at exhaustion. In addition I run a periodic treatment for the healing process

Hello Myrush. Has your dr. talked about removing the nasal polyps? It could bring you some relief. I have allergies, too, but a series of allery shots years ago has helped quite a bit. What periodic healing treatments do you use? Perhaps what is called a body cleanse? I hope you do well and stay healthy! Karen

We don't like to get our shots to early. If we do we don't get protection as long as we need it, I think is only last about 5 months.

Hi Pat. That makes sense. The flu is already going around here in MI, so when the drs. office called to remind me and set up an appointment, I readily agreed! Stay healthy and have a nice weekend. Karen

Hi Stan. Well I got my poke today for the regular flu strain, but I'm debating about the H1N1. Since it's not ready here, I still have time to decide. Have a great weekend! Karen

Where I live, in India, there is no real education about health issues. Unfortunately, preventive medication is not a 'Real' issue. The only shots I have got till now is for Pox and Polio and that was 48 years ago. The good thing is I have not had any serious infectious disease till now. Lucky I guess.

Hi Webearn. Yes, I would say you are very fortunate to be in good health. In the US all of us got those same shots and children, and so do the children today, plus other innoculations, too. I do hope you continue in good health, and that you have a good weekend. Thank you for your response. Karen

Just the other day i was talking about the flu shot. Im 22 and I haven't had it in years. The statistics make me a little weary, they say it's less than 50% effective with all these new strands that come out. I don't see it worth the risk of taking it. I haven't had the flu in years. Enough rest, plenty of water, and fruits have kept me. Whenever I feel sickish, I reach for an orange.

Hi Drae. Good for you, not being sick in a long time. Reaching for the orange is a great idea, as Vit C helps with colds and such. I've heard the controversies, too, but when the dr. explained why I need the regular flu shot, well I've been getting them for several years now. He isn't so sure about the H1N1 shot, though. I'm proudly wearing my Snoopy bandaid from the regular shot lol. Have fun this weekend and be safe! Karen

Im so sORRY! I hate flu shots or any kind of shots. Im truly scared oif needles so i try to avoid get ting sick and shots as much as i can. D: In California, while the news has spread, people are taking it less likely, well in my area. Most people dont talk about it anymore, some people are also thinking the flu is bogus. Some people think that scientists set it up, well we have no proof so good luckD:

Aww, I know a lot of people are deathly afraid of needles! It only hurts a split second :)) I'm still debating about the H1N1 shot. My doc has some questions as to its safety and such, but I did get the other one today. And I even got a cute snoopy bandaid like the kids get lol. Have a fun weekend! Karen
