Will you hide your mouth with your hand while laughing?

One of my male freinds love to hide his mouth with his hands while laughing, every time I recall his expression, I just feel rediculous as seldom people will hide their mouth with hands while laughing, particularly for the man. In olden times, ladies would prefer to hide their mouth with hands or handerchief to presend that she is in grace, but man did not require for that. How about you? Do you have that kind of habit? Will you accept your male friend to play like that in the morden society? Welcome your comment here.

Hello, Sasalove, I do not have that kind of habit. I think a male to do so is quite weired, anyway, I think good relationship should not be affected by this small thing. Have a nice day and happy mylotting to you.

Sometimes I do, usually when I am in the classroom. It is inappropriate to laugh loudly in the classroom because it could be a form of disrespect to the professor or something. But outside, especially when I am with friends, I tend not to because there is really no harm in laughing out loud. I mean, I could always be myself even in front of other people and if I laugh, I laugh openly.

Hi. I don´t have that habit, but I have my own opinion on that: First, I think some people do that because they are shy. That is a tell... Second, I do believe that many people do that to hide some problem in the mouth, like damaged teeth or lack of some teeth...

Teeth, face, body are endowed by your mum, frankly to face it, it is not a big deal as I did not have good teeth either, but I don't like to hide my mouth just for that reason. If you do not like you teeth, you could go to the dentist to have the artifical teeth fitted. LOL

Surely it is strange if he acts like the girl. Girls would not find an efeminate guy to be his boy friend or husband if she is not lesibian.

My teeth line is not that good. Moreover in my childhood I fell down and lost half tooth so I have broken tooth too. Hence I feel self-conscious and close my mouth while laughing.

Thanks for your gut to respond the discussion here, I did not mean to offense you, if your tooth has the faulty that caused by the childhood accident, why not go to the cosmetic detistry to correct? I am sure it will gain your confidence and help in your life if you did so.

I have actually only seen one person do this in real life and it was because she had bad teeth. She felt ashamed of her teeth and didn't want to smile or laugh. I haven't talked to her in awhile so I don't know if she has gotten over the fact her teeth are bad. Perhaps she had them fixed since we last talked.

It is a little hard to overcome the difficulties when she or he has the shortcomings. If she can do, she will become a great person uh. But if she got the positive praise from others sincerely that her smiley is more attractive, I am sure she will get rid of that habit gradually. Try to give the postive languague if you treated her as a friend.

I won't do that because i don't want to hide my mouth with hand or kerchief .Every body enjoys smiley face.... Some people try to hide their mouth, may be because some conditions like bad smell or droplets fall from his mouth. There are some ,not because of shy.Why should only female hide their mouth.I don't female friend hiding her mouth...

Definitely no. I am man, so this body language belong to women who want to show some manner, so they won't let their mouth open so wide when laughing. You are right, even for women, this is considered to be old fashioned. In the modern day, especially when women want to be freely express their feeling, no more habit like this. Of course, it isn't against the law nor hurting people for men who act like this. Only his macho-O-meter would be reducing :) ( no offense )

LOL, free discussion here. I absolutely agree with you on that, acting like that will lose the macho as a man. I hope I will not offense anyone by issuing this kind of topic either.

A girl with that gesture is more accepted than the boy, hehe...If a kid with that kid of gesture, people just think that they are quite Q and love that even the manner is applied by a boy.

I actually do that when I'm around someone new or someone that I'm attracted to. But I do it because I don't like my teeth. I do have all my teeth and they really aren't that bad of teeth to have. But I do have "big" gums, I have heard of actually getting my gums like burnt back. That's not what it's actually called, but it's just when a dentist basically follows the line where your gums lay over your tooth and basically burn it away so that more of your tooth shows. But anyways, since it's when I'm attracted to someone, it could be just trying to show my innocents also. I've never really gave it much thought. Good discussion starter.

I do that alot. I don't know why I do it I just do. It may be because I am shy person most of the time. It's annoying to other people though. They want to see your smile and you laughing most of the time. Just to make sure your having a good time. I can't do that I try to not do it at times. It's not working for me. I'm cursed! LOL XD

Thanks for your response, as a matter of fact, nobody will be annoyed for the gesture like that, but if you act like that without any other reason, it will lose your point in the macho and will be labeled as the forthright without hesitation. It is wise to change if you would like to.

No i dont think that its a bad habit its only differ from person to person Some people dont like laugh in front of other people while showing their all teeth and times if a person have very dirty or odd teeth they use to do it. However its natural in some poeple I also cover my mouth while laughing heavily because my teeth are not so good and when i examined myself in front of mirror it looks really bad

I think laugh can make people look younger, an inner laugh is the most beautiful thing in the world. Even the teeth is not so good, but it can be accepted by your friends, just not laugh with the exaggeratting manner.hehe~~

I know a couple of people who do, but they have bad teeth, so I sort of assumed that it was a self conscious thing they were doing. I wouldn't be too concerned about one of my friends doing this, male or female. lol As long as I'm not dating them, they can be as effeminate as they want to be.

As a matter of you, you do mind the guy presenting as the effeminate manner if he dated you out for the first time, right?

This is a good point to bring up. I had never really thought about it before. So many of us cover our mouths with our hands at some point when we are laughing about something. I think it's just a natural reaction. For me., i don't even realize I'm doing it at the time. I would have to add that i can't recall too many males with his habit though. Is it a gender habit invented by females?
@sasalove (1709)

LOL, if a girl with that movement, it is natural as laughing with hand covering originally express the shy, but nowadays even girls are few of them to have that habit, it is not accepted by a guy who did it.

I can just imagine how funny it would be if a man laughing with his hands covering the mouth. The first thought comes to my mind is that his gesture is a sign of vomiting.I am a forthright girl and I prefer to laugh with a open mouth. Therefore,I will not hide my mouth while laughing. In my view, laughing out is a way to give vent to our emotions, then we should not hide it.Maybe some elegant ladies would rather laugh gracefully with hands covering their mouths, and that is intelligible. However, when it comes to a strong man,it would be very strange.Overall,I can accept it from female while not male.

When I was study in senior school ,I always do like that - smiling and hide my mouth . Do you know why? hehe Because I think it looks like I'm very politely. But after I saw somebody laugh and open their mouth I think I can really know how happy she is. So now I won't do it any more . I will laugh and open my mouth ,and send my happy to you~
