Ok, my computer has been great since I had it reformatted & am now running a good anti virus. Anyhoo, since last night, for some reason, my computer automatically goes to a black screen if it's not being used & then goes to hibernate if it hasn't been used for quite a while - it never did that before...I am thinking that maybe my 2 year old daughter could've touched something that she wasn't supposed to but I really don't know.
I have tried looking through my control panel to try & fix it but everything is as it should be. Can you help me to fix this problem?

If you go to the Control Panel and select Power Options you should be able to correct your problems. It seems that your computer has some selections made that will shut down your computer a little too fast after a couple of minutes of inactivity. It is amazing how these settings occur but they do and children seem to get into places so easy and mess things up unintentionally, lol. Sometimes it seems like they can outsmart the computer.

I tried that but everything looks normal - would it make a difference that coz my computer is an Acer that it takes me to the acer power management?

I've never used an Acer so can't really say what difference it makes. If you do get sent to a screen for power management, have a look at what their settings are on. If it is a choice of changing your computer's performance, check a different one and see what happens. With laptops their default is usually one that saves as much battery power as it can. If you use AC than you don't have that worry and can set it to shut down things much later or not at all.

I'm just guessing but I'm thinking this may relate to your power options. If you go into your control panel and have a look at power options and take a look at the settings. You may notice options for hibernate and things like that. Chances are some settings have been adjusted to close the computer down when it's not in use. This is the closest thing I can think of. Hey,
I truly have no idea why your laptop is doing that, sorry about the inconvenience. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer your question better than I have done, in a really good way so you can actually benefit from it. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Hi moonchild
Well you have reformatted your system and now it is a natural thing that your screen is sleeping when idle and your system is hibernating after being left idle for sometime, this is because all your power management settings have gone back to their default settings and you will need to change your settings again... earlier when i used the default settings i hated one thing... my laptop would go to sleep mode just by closing it's lid and i didn't like that at all and so i changed my settings for it, now you have to change it according to your requirements... change your power management settings and you should find them in your control panel - system and maintenance... have a nice day moonchild!
