Hey everyone! I am having a huge problem with fleas and ticks on my new puppy :-( I have put frontline on him but he still gets fleas. And he keeps itching himself from the bits and I just don't know what the best solution is. I have been giving him flea and tick baths as well as spraying down my apartment. I also have been putting some medicine on his itch spots to help relieve the itching. What have you found to be the best solution for getting rid of fleas and ticks?

Sorry to hear about your puppy. I think first you should take your puppy to Petsmart or Petco and tell them to give your pup a flea and tick bath and maybe use some oatmeal shampoo as well for the itching. If your pup still has the flea and tick problem you should go to the vet and they should be able to help you out.

Hey! Thank you for your advice! I made an appointment for him at petco to get a flea and tick bath! I have been using some oatmeal shampoo and it has helped his itching a lot! I cannot wait until we get this problem under control! I feel so bad for him! I hate seeing him like this! We also sprayed down our house so that we kill any eggs or ticks that have gotten on the carpet.

BE CAREFUL IKf your pup is young all those flea and tick shampoos could be too strong for him Ask the vet honey you will be better off he will tell you what shampoo to get and definatewly keep usung the frontline religiously if you forget a month or put it on him to late it makes a huge difference also put a drop of it on the back near the base of the tail It doesnt tell you too but that also helps I do it to my Danes all the time good luck let me now what happens also you dont need an apt with the vet just call and ask what he recommends if not willing to tell you call a reputable groomer and she will tell you If you have no luck let me know I will get a name for you

I just find that a good flea shampoo generally does the trick, if that isn't working take your puppy to the vet and they will be able to give you the best solution

Hi Baybay2, sorry about your pup...take him/her to a Petsmart or other store like that and get him/her a flea bath...that's where they actually dip the pup in chemicals to kill the culprits. Poor little thing...he/she must be so uncomfortable... Also, be careful what you use for the itching...some human products are not good for animals. good luck. ~G~
