i am now in a singapore, its my first time to leave my home country. when i reach here, that was when i truly understand the word culture shock. As this is a totally different world far from where i come from. the first thing i had a hard time is the road, where i come from it is a "keep right road" the car driver are on the right side but here its a "keep left road" car drivers are on the left hand side of the car. And sometimes its hard to cross over the road as i am very used to looking at the right side for coming cars first before the left side. Now i find myself laughing each time i remember those times...i feel crazy... but happy that now i have gotten used with the culture here. So whats your story? and how did you manage?

My father was in the Indian Army and mY husband in the Indian Airforce. Everytime that we were/are transferred to another city after two or three years, It was a kind of a cultural shock for me.The people are different, speak different languages and their ways are also differnt for India is a country of varying cultures. However it is always enjoyable and I always carry wonderful memories of our travels.

It's great advice to try and learn other people's ways as well as your own. I've been overseas in the Middle East for 1 year. I see many people who have culture shock and end up going home. It's such a shame, though, because if one really tries to appreciate (you don't have to agree with it) their different lifestyles and cultures, the experience can be tremendously rewarding. I always say to people who ask me why I like it here - you can't really know yourself and your own culture unless you've lived in someone else's. And believe me your own perspective on life may change for the better!!
