I made a fence in my garden. Am I in jail or is Lola?

Lola is my much too big German Shepherd. She still is a girl but she must weigh 100 pounds. She changed her teeth and I´m glad she loves me: she could kill me with two bites. When she came to my house I had to put away all the plants I had in pots. As it is, she destroyed completly my garden. I wanted to make a veggie garden this summer (we are starting Spring in my country) but with Lola it would have been imposible. So I spent money on a fence that parts the garden in two. Half for her (the front part because she is very nosy and loves to check what´s going on in the street) and the other half for me. I hope that later she will learn to behave and I can let her stay in both places. She does feel bad about being left out of the social life, but I want my flowers too. Have you had a similar experience with your dogs? I´m hoping she gets less restless when she grows up. Share please! Take care!

Hello marguicha I have a German shepherd mongrel, I found on the street. He was just about 5 days old, even his eyes shut as her ears, and with his umbilical cord. We put the name of Bruno, the first week was like having a human baby, I got up every 2 hours to feed, a food with a bottle prescriber by a veterinarian, Bruno gradually grew, and I could sleep longer during the morning because he did not need to eat every two hours, took my business to be on the lookout for him, and now turned 10 months old and weighs 110 pounds, I say it is happiest dog in the world because they never I see him sad, always ready to play, and break everything too, I'm out of plants (those that survived the change of place), I have been without a pair of shoes (also chewed by Bruno, hahahaa) and if was little I already had 2 puppies Chihuahuas, when Bruno was small and only weighed 6 pounds was like a brother but today Bruno grew a lot and my little toy for now. Are not the only friend with a "hyper Baby". Kiss for Lola Lucky

My Lola is 9 month old and maybe she weighs as much as Bruno. I worry when my mom (85 years old) come and I have to tie her while she enters. She likes to greet people jumping over them. Lola also ate my sandals in Summer. Now she eats the newspaper and the TV guide.I´ll post a picture one of these days. I was going to take a picture today because yesterday it was sunny, but today it´s rainind again. In what part of Mexico are you living? Hug

Well, those are the trade-offs for having Lola. There are rules in the house and for mutual sanity, the fences will do the work at the moment. I guess when Lola learns how to co-exist with you, more things can be done and the fence can come down. My dog, the late Bully,a mixed Labrador had his way in the house until my 'army'wife arrived. From then on, it was a military boot camp for him until his demise.

Lola learnt easity that she was NOT to get into my house. But the first two days she was at home ,she started to play with the poison for ants. Fortunatly she didn´t break the can. From then on, she has been having more and more doors closed. She is too big and full of mischief to be let anywhere yet.

Keep The Dog Well .. - Keep The Dog Or the Garden
You Should Keep A Dog Only If You Think You Can Provide for It's Needs .. Otherwise Why Does The Dog Need You Or Vice Versa .. You Should Keep Your Garden Good Or Decide On Keeping The Dog .. I Am Not Telling You This To Make You Feel Bad .. Am Just Letting You Know The Facts, In case You Have Lost It ..

It doesn´t make me feel bad. Don´t worry. Providing for the needs of someone (be it an animal or a human being), means teaching and learning. I have had another happy dog. AND a garden. AND a clean house. Having a dog does not mean you´ll sleep with it and let the animal take the carpet as it´s toilet. Lola already knows that. She is learning. And she is happy with me, learning that there are limits. I do the same with my grandchildren and they all love me.

I have just a tiny chihuahua, so she can't damage the garden much. Lola sounds beautiful, I hope you can post a picture sometime, would love to see her. My dog, atukay, used to like to help me in the garden. When I would be weeding, she kept on grabbing the weeds as I pulled them out. I figured, why not? A little while later, I found out what she was doing with them. She was digging holes, and burying them! Here I was pulling them out, and she was behind me putting them back in....oh well. We had fun. The fence sounds like a good solution to me. Lola can still see you when you're in the garden, right?

The fence is transparent almost. She can see me. And when she learns manners, Ill let her in, of course. Now that the days are sunnier I´ll take a picture of her. She is as beautiful as naughty.

There is a saying saying: "When you're good you're good, when you're bad you're very good". Maybe Lola thinks that means her?

Of course I love the beast!!!. Today, one day after the fence was done, it rained. I had to open the door so that she seeked refuge where she did before. She doesn´t have a house, she sleeps outside my bedroom door to the garden. And when I´m in other parts of the house she goes as near as I am. A good dog has a much better nature than many human beings

I made the fence but maybe I did not make myself clear. She has enough space to jump, run, bark and play in her side. And there are shrubs and plants there too. Only I left the biggest and hardiest.

I cant remember a time when we didnt have a dog in my childhood. Sometimes we had more than 5 dogs plus a dozen puppies...It was fun but at the same time cleaning the mess was quite a job...We too had a german sheperd who was brought to our home quite late, so we couldnt train him well. He was theleast behaved of the dogs...would jump on everybody, eat, sleep and play all beng untidy...While on those occasions he was let loose, he tried biting clothes on the line let to dry!!! I have lost a lot of socks, and ties to him... There was this another dog a spitz who was eager to have chocolates and anybody who entered our com[pound with chocolates were not let free. he made a point to teach them to bring chocolates for him too...One another thing which we all disliked alike was his mating spree hi hi...He would sneak out from below the compound gate and go hunting

Lola does that, but it´s because she is still young. I´m training her and she sits and gouess down at my command, but she can´t keep still. Now that the days are sunnier, I´ll take her for walks to wear her (or me) off. We´ll see how all this works. I hope it does: I have spent a lot more than what I should in making the fence although I used as many recicled things as I found.

Hi,mar.. may be i will do the same thing as you do though i feel a bit sorry for your lovely dog. She will adapt to this kind of life soon i think, the capability of a dog in adapting to anythng is strenger than ours. so don't worry about this .if the garden and the dog are all your friends, they should get a good relationship. it is the duty of both you and your dog. whish you a happy time

She has all the front, with nice shrubs to destroy, the view of the street (made by her, I used to haveshrubs there too)and a cactii garden (I hope she won´t decide the thorns are the place to lay down. As for the fence, you can see to the other half of the garden. When she learns to behave, I´ll let her in when I´m there.
