Everybody and their brother will tell you exactly what God wants. People make a lot of assumptions yet claim to all be experts on God. Holy books are memorized back and forth. Interpretations can vary as much as the number of stars in the sky.
People will kill, hate, degrade in God's name quoting passages from their holy book. People will picture God for you as a heavy handed ruler who judges, condemns, and destroys. On top of all that, if a person has God on their side, they can justify anything. After all, doesn't might make right??
Why do so many give God a bad name? Perhaps, most do not even understand God beyond their own adversity. They know God can fix anything and are angry that everything isn't Heaven all the time.
Perhaps, our view of God reflects who we are. We are made in God's image, however don't most people shape God to their way of thinking?? That being said. Do most people hate and despise others, seeing flaws?? Do most people demand cruel punishment?? If people were God for a day, how many would just be cruel?? A friend summed it all up for me. He said it's about power. We all want power! I believe a lot of this is true.
Is it so hard to conceive of a God who is nothing except Unconditional Love?? Is it so hard to conceive of unconditional love itself?? Picture a God with wisdom along with power. Picture a God who won't be cruel, hateful, and punishing to His children but will send lessons to show each of us just what we give the world. Sure this can hurt, but no more than the choice people have made that hurts others. How else can people see what they do?? God is teaching us to love uncondionally. In order to do just that, first, we must stop the hate and the need to control others. We must choose to put people first over our hate, greed, and thirst for control and power. True power is when you can love unconditionally. People will do anything for you. After all, it is what we all want!!! Tell me what you think!!

I wish the word God can only have one meaning. Unfortunately, it means differently to different people. There is no common ground and proper frame of reference.
Yes, God created man according to His own image but sadly, man created gods according to his own image. To some people, God is nothing but an old celestial being standing in the heavens with a stick in His hand punishing the bad ones and rewarding the good ones. To some, God is equated with love and a non-entity or person but purely a force, an idea. To others, God is only a spirit, not different from other spirits aside from being the supreme one. No wonder then, that for lack or reverence, some people are giving God a bad name, that's the way they understood it to be.
Not everybody will accept the definition of God in the light of Judeo-Christian tradition. A divine being in three-persons but one God. He revealed Himself in the Bible and in the person of Jesus Christ.
This diversity makes it difficult to have one universal concept of who God is and how people should believe.

Maybe this is a good thing and we all do not realize it. It prevents conquering the world in God's name with a bias belief of an Earthly leader. Perhaps, our diversity is keeping us all safe until man can grow enough not to control and hate. Maybe at that point we will all see that the only answer is unconditional love just like God. Yes, there are many many lessons before man gets there. Thanks for bringing lots of good comments.
