It has been raining non-stop since last night. There is a storm in the Philippines right now and it has in effect drenched the whole Luzon area. I have just watched the news and I can see that most of Manila's major thoroughfares are inundated by floods. Our National Disaster Coordinating Council has advised residents of Metro Manila to stay at home or seek shelter for those who are living in areas that are already flooded. There is also an advisory that dams will release water once they reach critical level, so this means more floods.
I live in the mountains so I have no problem with floods, but I went out this morning and my plant box and all my pots were filled to the brim with water. This will be the least of my concerns, my cats and kitten were drenched because my shelter for them was blown away. So I had to reinforce their shelter so that they don't get wet.
I do hope my kababayans and friends here in mylot are safe.

Last night as I was listening to the news on the radio, one of the reports said that rescue workers were dropping food to those stranded in their roofs and could not be reached by rescuers because of the strong current. The food bag included rice and canned goods. It made me want to smack the heads of whoever set up that food bag because how on earth will these people stranded in their roofs be able to cook the rice or open the canned goods.
What they should have dropped are hard candy, water, biscuits, tetra juices. There goes our tax money. The people needed food, but imagine you're almost in a state of hopelessness, you get a food drop and when you open it you realize that you cannot eat it. Thank you for your response.

Rain has stopped now. Areas here in Metro Manila that were impassable before are now accessible. There are still lots and lots of vehicles in the street and the people stranded in their vehicles stayed in. There are talks that malls will be opened to accommodate stranded pedestrians. In these times of crisis the Heroes and Zeroes emerge.

Thank you for your response. One of the sad things that also dampened the spirits of some rescuers and reporters covering the disaster is that there was looting reported. There was even one reporter who visited a site that was flooded and had a lot of people, and while she was covering the event, she lost her phone to pickpockets.

You may have a little trouble contacting your friends here in Manila, but I think most of the services are already restored. My phone and internet was restored only a few hours ago. Thank you for your response.

Oh no! I haven't watched the news yet but my sister in the Philippines sent me a message that it is raining non-stop there. She told me that our house is currently filled with knee deep water. When i was there, i didn't experience that. This is by far the worst flood ever because it made it's way in our house. The typhoon before didn't even make even a toe deep entrance near the door. That was one hell of a storm. I hope people are safe and be strong to face the new world tomorrow.

I hope your house has been spared by the flood. I am saddened by what I saw in the news. I was already saddened when I heard pleas of help Saturday evening. Thank you for your response.

Yeah...It was still good a news for me when my sister said that the water level didn't reach the second floor. Some of our things were carried on the second floor for fear of getting wet and damaged. It was bad experiencing flood yet my family is still lucky to be safe and the house was just partly destroyed and not the entirety of it. A little fixing of the first floor will be on the way. I am saddened to see that there were lives and properties that were destroyed totally. It was one of the most tragic even in the history.

Lucky for us our place is high and the storm did not affect us that much. Sad for those who are affected, for those whose houses are flooded, for those who are stuck in traffic and for those who loss so much. I pray for you all.

Like you Madelaine, I live in an area that is also high so we were spared of being flooded. When I went out yesterday morning, there was more devastation: proof of the wrath of the storm. Power lines were down, so were trees. Thank you for your response.

I live in Laguna and Laguna is in a state of calamity right now. I'm lucky though that from where I live,it's not as severe as some areas in Laguna. I feel bad though for those who are experiencing the worst of this storm. Hopefully the storm will be out of our country soon and that those who are affected will recover soon.
Keep safe everyone.

I was also feeling bad by Saturday nightfall. About an hour after I posted this discussion, our power went out. Pitched in blackness, no phone or signal in our cellphones, our only source of news was a small transistor radio that was about to go out because the battery was not new. We had food and drinking water but in this time of calamity, I felt guilty of being safe and having food. Thank you for your response.

Hello anne,
Here in the city where i lived also had floods now.Water rise very fast and i can see people now even evacuated from their homes and right here where i lived just across i can see the overpass filled with people who make it as their temporary shelter since their homes were being flooded now.
This is reall sad...but i hope this will give us some lessons too.We,/humans destroys our own sorroundings and here we are the one who suffers the consequences of it.
Trash and garbage thrown everywhere clogged the drainage and sewers...wish this serves as lesson to all city residence and...a wake up calls to all politicians and our sleeping government

It is sad to see so many families displaced an living in evacuation centers. The number of evacuated families will still rise since the rain has not stopped and here where I live, its like 6PM because it is already dark. I hope that our politicians will do something about this. Thank you for your response.

yes, situation here in the philippines is getting worst...but what keeps me worried is the situation of my students...Some of them are living under the bridge. They told me that their houses were destroyed by typhoon ondoy... As i was reading their text messages, tears began to fall in my eyes... too sad...I can't help them by any means...The only thing I can offer is prayer though prayer is very powerful... imagine, these students study hard for them to be successful in life someday. They might be living in squatters area but I know they do want to achieve their goals and live in a secure place. I always inspire them to reach for their dreams and not to lose hope. Now, i'm afraid that their faith will fall down... I want to them to be motivated but i know that in their heart right now, there's no more room for motivation neither inspiration. They loss everything even their school things. Please help me pray for these children.. That God will intervene and may God give them the wisdom to understand his will in their life.

I do hope that your students are also safe. They can always find a place to live, buy clothes or other things. But once they lose their lives, it is much harder to accept. Thank you for your response.

The rain is really non-stop. As I watch the News Advisory, the storm was strong and the water is overflowing.
There are many of our fellow countrymen experiencing had a hard time right now, its already dark and hardly to be rescued.
I'm very thankful that I don't experience it. We only experience light rainfall and winds.
Hope that people there will be rescued soon.

hopefully the rain will stop but according to PAG_ASA by tomorrow afternoon the typhoon will be out of the area of responsibility.i really changed my mind not to go to Manila for a review because for what i have seen in the news today, i think almost of the Manila area is flooded. Traffic is everywhere and people are going out from their cars and walked instead because their cars cant withstand the flood.Plus, anytime today, dams will relase volume of water once it reach on a critical level and this will make the situation even worse.Im glad im here in Zamboanga and will be reviewing instead in Cebu.

Unfortunately by the time the rain stopped here in Manila, flood waters have risen as high as fifteen feet. I am thankful that my family has been spared from this calamity. Thank you for your response.

I am a resident here in the Philippines talking about the weather here will yeah your right its rainy in here. But only the luzon areas i am living in visayas so we are just experiencing rain and strong winds but its safe here compared to manila r in luzon here in Cebu i seldom experienced flooding here.Luzon keeps on flooding because their sewers are completely blocked by garbage sad to say but some of the residents were not not disciplined enough in terms of proper disposal of their trashes so we cannot blame mother nature if it strikes back also in some mountanous region in Luzon illegal logging is very rampant thats why our trees cannot hold the water anymore.Sad to say but its the fact and its getting worse as time goes by.

Hi, I am in Negros Oriental and it's been raining non-stop too for many days now although there's no strong winds. And the storm has not passed by here but the pull of the monsoon rains is great causing rains and flooding. And it's a bit cold too. I welcome the rain but I don't like it when it's been raining for many days LOL.
I am safe thank you but I hope the rain will stop because I am going back and forth to the hospiatl to help take care of a sick cousin and it's not nice to go out always when it's raining.

Thank you for your response. It is hard to go out and travel in this weather and its something that you cannot postpone since you are going to care for your sick cousin. Take extra care though. Thank you again for your response.

I'm not aware that it is raining non stop last night but right now the rain is non stop and there's flood outside. It's almost reach our house but luckily the water subsided. We still afraid that it is going to flood again here. It's only signal no.1 here but it seems it is signal no.2 or 3 because of the heavy rainfall.

I live in Rizal and it has been raining non-stop here since last night. I do hope that your house be spared from being flooded. I had experienced having flood water inside my rented apartment five years ago and a lot of my furniture was destroyed by the flood water. Thank you for your response.

yes, i see breaking news now and from time to time on tv. there is flooding along mother ignatia avenue where big tv stations are located. i am now watching a noontime show that is a replay of one they had shown last saturday (it is saturday here when i write this) ... might be because of the bad weather in manila and luzon area. i live in central visayas and we had strong winds yesterday and not-so-hard rains. now, it is too windy and we have occasional rains.
hope everyone is okay where they are. let's pray that this will be over immediately to avoid serious damage to life and properties.

Thank you for your response. My prayers are the same that the storm will abate without much damages left in its aftermath. I have also watched that one exclusive village in Ortigas is flooded. To think that this exclusive village is a sort of millionaire's row, but it is flooded. Be safe, thank you for the response.
