HI ALL, Salary increase is the most important part of any employee's career. But working year on year without salary increase is difficult. So what should an employee do with the employer who does not give yearly salary increase.

Hi ilyas. All employers would want to give salary increases to their employees. But the problem is, their hands are also tied due to poor production. You have to weigh it. Has your marketing/ sales been doing good and hitting the budget, how much were the losses for this year, do we need to hire new people and other broad stuff which we employees cannot see. In our company (yes, we have branches globally), we follow a bell-curve as basis of the salary increases. If your company has done well for the previous year, they would distribute the pool of increases to those deserving. Those on the high portion of the bell curve usually goes to sale people (or client interfacing) and officers and those on the lower are the backroom people (like human resource department, finance & accounting and IT). Furthermore, we have an annual assessment on the employees wherein we are rated by our supervisors and bosses and they give recommendation to the region for the increases. Increases has always been the subject of intrigue among employees especially that increases have different rates to each employee. If you think that you are not treated fairly, i would suggest you approach your supervisors and get your answers. If your company has good production, i dont really see a problem for increases...

Hi Grace, I totally agree with your point that if an employee think that the salary raise is not fair, they have to ask their supervisor about it. In our company, we usually have biannual assessment and increment. And increment will be based on work performance individually and as a department. Every financial year, they have allocated a budget department wise and for the whole operation. Sometimes those that got more number in a department was given relatively low increment than those with only 2 or 3 staffs but this is not always the case. But since recession hit the world economy, our company as being one of those MNCs are being affected. For 1 year now, we are not receiving any increment as Head Office make an announcement to freeze it as well as the recruitment until such time that the business slowly recover. This is fine to us as we all know that this situation is inevitable given the fact that there are so many mass retrenchment that are taking place. We are just thankful enough that at least we still have a job to sustain each individual financial needs.

well i think it depends on some companies if they will give salary increase, i think its not really mandatory and its the prerogative of the company itself. however if there will an additional task or skill which is challeneging enough an increase should be added. and of course it should be based on tenured, loyalty and good performance of the employee.
