This is free newspaper reading. I am also guilty of this especially during a train ride. This picture was taken during a train ride to the city. Are you, my fellow myLotters also guilty of this peeping at the neighbour's newspapers? Is it polite or impolite? Please pen your view.

Yes, I do too. Only if he is in front of me. If he is beside me, I will not look at the papers. Yes, I will try to borrow from him if he is not reading it any more.

I think this scene of Malaysian Lives. Most of us are guilty of that. Some may rate it as rude. Try to be discreet.

I think peeping at your neighbour's paper is common not only in Malaysia but also other parts of the world. It is very tempting to glance at the headlines. But to some it may be disgusting and uncultured. However, I think it is nothing wrong as long as you done discreetly with the person knowing.

You mean reading over their shoulders? This is not s polite thing to do, and usually a person will let you borrow their newspaper when done.

I have been in the situation where a person finished reading I politely ask to borrow. He graciously lend to me. This is courtesy on his part. So far nobody has refused me yet. Thank you for responding. I appreciate it.

Yes many people have this habit which is actually bad manners. When someone peeps into my paper I just give it to them. Sometimes some people say sorry and won't accept but there are people who thankfully accepts and then takes a lot of time to return. God bless them. Some upbringing! I have never done this even if there is a flashy sensational title. There are times when I didn't get the paper back, I bought a new paper from vendor boy. We can just try to influence others by our good action.

When I peep over the shoulder I usually done it discreetly by turning my eyeballs to the right or left depending where I sit. If sit facing him then I just glance at the page facing me without his knowledge. So far nobody has done to me what you did. If he will to pass the paper to me I will apologise and won't accept. Anyway,I agree with you.It is bad manners I am sorry. Thank you for your view.

Mr Bean does that. But I don't. The neighbour wouldn't like you looking over his/her shoulders but I'm sure he/she would let you have the newspaper after he/she has read it if you were to ask nicely.

Yes, It was funny the way Mr Bean did that. It is courteous to wait for the person who sits next to finish reading. Then politely ask him permission to read his papers. He will oblige you. Thank you for your response.

Hi, This discussion reminds me co worker in my office. We had bus service provided by company. There was a paper stall near bus stop. We use to purchase newspaper and read it in the bus. But this man never purchased own paper he was always asking newspaper from others. and never felt guilty. I never like to have others newspaper. I sometimes peep into others newspaper and I think it is also impolite.

I think majority of us myLotters are guilty of peeping into other reading newspapers, however impolite it is. Now we have newspapers given to us from Monday to Friday.

Reading free news papers will give more enjoyment to lot of persons, as they don't spend a dime for the paper and read the important news from it. In fact some people go to library, Tea shops, Neighbor home and other places to read the free news papers. Some one have the habit of reading free news during their journey, this kind of persons will ask news papers and Magazines from their co passengers while traveling and read the news. Some people will read the news and take the paper or magazine with them and don't return it to the real owner. In this modern days most of the people give up this habit, however some people will keep up this tradition and interested in carry forward this noble activity to the next generation. There is nothing wrong in reading free news paper or magazine with the permission of the owner, but never take it to your home. We must return the paper or magazine to the owner after reading the information. If you need paper or magazine for your self, lot of free magazines are available at free of cost, you can make a search in online about them and subscribe it, you will get the paper in your door step with out any issues. I don't think reading this kind of free magazine is an impolite activity. But taking others magazine without their knowledge is really a bad thing. If you get a magazine from your co passenger while traveling you must return it to them after reading the magazine. Since it was others property and we must give it to them. Free news paper and magazine lovers can find various free things from online and grab their copy which is far better than taking other persons belongings.
