Are you a big spender or are you a budget officer? In this time of financial crisis how do you spend your money? Money is an essential factor for the society, it is the one that defines one's status in life. Budgeting is a careful way of planning on how to spend your money. Different people have different needs and wants therefore different budgets also exists.
I try to spend my money wisely by buying things only when needed. I always allocate almost 50% of my budget for food because it is the most important thing my body needs.

hello there!
definitely i am not a big spender! but i can't also say that i am a budget officer...huh! but i am trying my best to be good in budgeting...coz i really have to!if i will not do good in budgeting, it will be me & my husband who will suffer...so i need to be wise.
usually, just like you, i just buy what we need and not really what we want...we can buy what we want but we need to save for it first...
how i budget our money? hmmmm the biggest part goes to food and some of our basic needs...some parts to monthly bills (electricity, water, internet)and i never forget to give some to our church...
as to savings...well, i am trying to start saving again...huh! i am a failure in this part... coz everytime i try saving, something happen that forces me to use that saving...and so i will be back to zero again...huh!
have a nice day!

Hi! It's nice to see that your budgeting well and your right if you don't budget your money or spend it wisely your also be the one to suffer the consequences. Budget plus savings would be very good, I'm sure you'll learn to save money in due time like you learn to budget it:

Just this week, my husband and I enrolled in a debt management plan because we were stupid when we were a bit younger and racked up quite a bit of credit card debt. One of the things that we had to do to get started with that was to look at our budget and adjust it so that our lives would be workable. Well, even before we started the debt management, I was a stickler for money. I had to know where every single penny went and if I saw too much going to one place, it made me very unhappy.
If we didn't spend a dime more than the way that I've budgeted things for the coming month, we will be able to come out about 250 dollars ahead. I'd like to hope that can happen but even if it doesn't, as long as we don't fall short we are going to be in a good position for the simple fact that it is only going to take us less than 3.5 years to be out of credit card debt.

That's a nice move. Credit and debt is really a headache. It's good to budget now than to drown in credit and debts for life. I think it will be hard at first but if you get the hang of it all will be running smoothly and the 3.5 years will just fly by without you even noticing:)

i am a student and my allowance is not that big...
i usually list all the things i need to pay....
like my fare.,xerox of notes needed in school.,projects..
food...?i dont like to buy outside...so i eat in the house
before i leave and bring a snacks to school...so whenever i get hungry i have something to eat...
and then compute for it...then divide it in to the no. of days of my school..
and prepare it in my table per day...so that i just have enough with a little bit of extra to spend for that specific day...in that way i can save my money for emergency cases...

That's pretty good. I read a book that people should start saving at a very young age to secure a very rewarding retirement. Keep it up that's good. I envy you for that:)

Once upon a time I never used to budget or anything but this was a bad idea as I landed myself in debt and I'm still paying off that debt. I think that there was something positive that came out of the situation and that is, I was introduced to the budget sheet! I have made multiple copies just incase I need to change things but otherwise, I carry out my budget every two weeks. I know where I stand to the penny now and this is a good thing. I don't spend money that I don't have. I used to have a credit card and so I bought everything using the plastic and this is what got me into trouble. I think I always take the essentials into consideration like food, rent, clothing and things like that. Once this has been taken care of, if there is any money left over and there normally isn't, I will spend out on something cheap as there must be some kind of enjoyment in this whole process! Andrew

Whoa h!I think you really are a big spender before. There was also a time that I don't budget my money, it's not that I don't know how to but I just don't want to limit myself. I use to pamper myself a lot. During those times, even though I spend so much I don't have debt issues because by the time I realized I don't have much money left my instinct tells me to project my future cost and then budget:)

I must admit... I am a big spender. but not a shopaholic. 60% percent of my allowance goes to fare. 40% for the food. and it is definitely not enough. Now, my mom wonders where on earth do I put my allowance. I cant tell her where it goes. She might get mad... :(

60% allotted for travel expenses that's really really big. If I'm in your shoe I wouldn't really be considering being a shopaholic.

I spend my money wisely by spending only for the ones that is needed and only give just about 10% to my necessities. I budget my money always, like making a list for what I would need or do with my money after my payday.

We live at or below our means. We do not take vacations often. We save, save, save. We spend as wisely as we can. Our family has 2 kids. And a college savings plan is in the works for each.

Well, quite frankly, I'm a budget oficer. That means I will never spend even a cent buying something unnecessary. I only spend my money to buy something I need. Well, writing about food, I have no restriction for that one. I will spend whatever the amount is if I need something to eat. But I will consider if I eat at restaurant or something similar. I save some of my money, and believe that someday it will be very helpful.

We are much the same when it comes to food. I never really limit myself when it comes to spending money on food. I can live without shelter but I can't live without food:)

hello, glad to see your discussion, since I have something in mind when I see it.
most of my income comes from offline job, I have a full time job in an international company, and I spend 20% of my salary on housing. I have a high demand on my life environment. so I would rather spend more money on my house.
And food, I spend about 10% of all my income. I cook for myself, and seldom eat outside, so I can save much time on dining.
And about others, I save them or invest them in other aspect, as a matter of fact, I can save about 50% of my salary when I am very busy (too busy to spend money), and I send money back to my parents, it is not easy for them to raise me up.

There are times that I'm also a big spender but that's very occasional. I usually go broke when I overstep my budget:)

Ensure money is put aside to pay all bills. Then put aside money fro any incidentals. About 10% will do. As for the rest, leave some for petty cash. Put the rest into the bank. If there are incidentals, take some money out using an ATM card.Go shopping occasionally if there is a good sale.
