25 THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE Or A YEAR In Jail!

United States

That's right, under the new healthcare plan being considered by the senate finance committee you will be fined if you can't afford to buy healthcare. If you cannot afford to pay the fine, you will be fined $25,000 or be sentenced to a YEAR in jail! Riddle me this; if a person does not have enough money to buy health insurance, they get a fine of up to $1900, if they cannot pay THAT fine, they will be fined TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS or spend a year in jail, where do they think the poor people will come up with 25 grand? And don't we ALREADY have a prison overpopulation problem without adding a bunch of innocent people whose only crime is being broke to the system? Oh well, at least in JAIL you get free healthcare! Will they let us bring our kids to jail too, since they can't afford it either? If not, who will take care of our kids while we are imprisoned? What happens after you serve your year and you STILL can't afford it? In this country we have killers who get out of jail sometimes months after being sent to prison, is not being able to afford healthcare a worse crime that warrants a YEAR in prison? Also, isn't the foster care system already completely overwhelmed? What happens to that system when hundreds of thousands of children whose parents are sent to jail for not having an extra $25 grand lying around get entered into that system? DO you REALLY think this is a good idea? http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/26/baucus-mandate-penalty-lead-prison-congressional-analysts-say/

Follow the logic thru..you spend your year in prison and who should greet you at the gate but some fella selling health insurance..and away we go again! Yes, free health care in prison..well..what it sounds like is someone is cooking up a scheme to produce massive amounts of free labor..hmm..Labor camps ala another dictator, justifying the labor as a way for those economic miscreants to pay back to the system that so generously cares for them (Stalin would be proud), with no hope of escape for the imprisoned..Produce or die! Insofar as the foster care system, do you honestly believe that a system that would have no qualms with penalizing the working class because their greedy employers underpay and refuse to insure them would have any qualms with forced child labor?! Give it a thought.. ENJOY!

Nor I, since, as we speak, internment camps are being built in these United States, plus they're still saying OFFICIALLY that anyone who disagrees with Obummer's "health plan" or attends tea parties or any number of other conservative activities & beliefs is a "low-level terrorist." Chew on that for awhile. Yup. I wouldn't put anything past our Fearless Leader. Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

I wonder... Canada once opened its arms to draft dodgers... think they'll take insurance dodgers? Hey, with the way things are going these days, a year in jail might be a good economic move. After all, the state pays all the utility and food bills. If people don't vote out these azzholez in Congress, there's nothing that can be done. They are showing their contempt for their duty to represent right now, they are thumbing their noses at their constituents, they are insulting and denigrating the American people and perverting the concept of democracy. Time to throw the bums out! Unfortunately, it will probably be too late.

Unfortunately, if you are on Social Security (SSDI anyway - not sure about retirement social security) , that when you go to jail, your checks stop until you come out. So, willingly going to jail until this economy changes, may not be so good. lol..You will just be as poor when you come out.

George Orwell is rolling over in his grave wishing like hell he didn't die before the 0bamanation Bin Laden Administration got in office. This stuff is true life and makes Animal Farm look like a nursery rhyme. This is kinda like over draft fees at the bank. If you don't have the money to begin with, you're going to get pegged with ODFs. Then if that's not bad enough, you have the ODFs to take care of when you do get money. So instead of a $2 purchase and a $5 purchase, you now owe $77 after 2 ODFs and then your original purchases. I'd like to see how 0bamanation plans on enforcing this rule. We gonna have government agents in our homes now monitoring us? When will the socialism end?

Funny you should mention ODFs, I just got my 50th call this week from my bank informing me that I am overdrawn, which I ALREADY knew! It started when they hit me with a $35 fee for a $.77 overdraft BEFORE it actually hit my account, while it was PENDING, then they ate my deposits and next thing I know I am overdrawn by over $150.00 thanks to their fees! i have nothing until the beginning of October so they call several times a day to harass me even though once I say I am already aware of the situation they say "oh yes, I see that now in my notes" but it doesn't stop them from calling hourly from 8am to 10 pm every single day!

This doesn't seem fair at all. How can anyone be able to afford $25,000 just for that type of healthcare? Only the rich can, or at least the middle class that can afford it. All this for Obama's healthcare...doesn't it seem that they're taking this a bit too far? If everyone in the US can't afford to pay for it and they get thrown in jail for it, that'd be like the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: robbing from the poor and giving to the rich. I just hope that this bill doesn't pass or else a hell of a lot of innocent people will go to jail for a crime of being poor. This is just inexcusable.

I think it's actually funny! The amount of people right now on unemployment is up to what right now? I doubt any of them could afford the health care. Makes me wonder if imprisoning someone or paying their unemployment benefits is cheaper. Eventually the gov't is going to bankrupt itself and then what will they do? They won't have money for unemployment, social security or enough to run the prisons....

Kitty, I looked, but somehow MyBot has lost (or never sent?) your request! Tell you what, I'll send you a friendship request, & you just say yes (if you still want to; I feel especially stupid today ). I promise I'll get right on it! Once again, I apologize. I've had a lot on my plate lately, so maybe I accidentally erased your letter, though honestly, I have no memory of actually seeing it! If what you're claiming is correct, our government is more ridiculous than I thought. Of course if you can't pay this outrageous fee, I bet the government will confiscate your property. That way the government will eventually own everything, including you. Why have we let our government get so monstrously inflated? We voters need to wise up and vote anyone who supports this measure out of office.

This is crazy. You made some good points as to who will take care of the children while imprisoned, and how will they get their insurance. This is totally insane and really stupid. Free county my butt. The government is looking for any way to make sure that it is no longer a free country, not saying that it ever was to begin with.

I think that I don't like the idea of this healthcare plan. Of course, I didn't think it was a good idea to elect Obama, so I don't know. I think that this country is in for a big, big letdown.

This is just another case of the nut jobs in government trying to enact socialist or communist policies. It's designed to MAKE you comply with the government's idea of what's right and if you don't do what they want, you'll be thrown in jail. The government is telling you, "You WILL spend your money on what we tell you. You WILL buy what we instruct you to. And if you don't, you'll be arrested." Is it just me or does this sound like something right out of the old Soviet Union? I hear they're building a new Gulag up in the Arctic region just for insurance criminals... Oh, we're living in the Obamanation...

This is utter nonsense. Jailing the people for not being able to pay for healthcare. Looks like a 'legal debt collector', or legal 'money sucker'. How many more prisons do they need to have to contain everyone then? They will still have to spend on building prisons.

As much as I'm not a politics person and try to avoid talking about it as it's not one of my favorite subjects, I don't see them enforcing this and I do think it would be impossible. Too many people are out of work, like me, and have been for a long time already. When they can find me a decent job, then I'll be happy to pay. Until that time, I don't have an extra dollar to give towards it and that's that. And are they really going to take Fathers, Mothers, away from their children because they can't afford to pay for insurance? It's the most a$$inine idea I ever heard of in my life. If they want to put me in jail at 62 because I can't find work, then so be it because there will be a whole bunch of us there and probably half of myLot too. Hey, what a great way to meet all our fellow friends from here, plus, get free health coverage, eat, further our education, work a little, exercise, and get a free ride there (which reminds me, my car is out of commission now with no brakes and I don't have the money to fix it either) what more can we ask for? Absolutely unconditionally ridiculous.

After reading the article, it seems to me Congress isn't trying to lower the cost of health care, but rather trying to force everyone into getting health insurance, whether they want it or not. This plan is just as bad as anything else out of Washington. It's just another way for them to steal our money.

This is one of the most rediculases things that i have ever heard. It is just another way to hold down the poor and make them pay. We lost our health care over a year ago, because of loosing our job. So i guess because we could not afford the 50 grand for me and my husband we would both end up in jail.

There is no way that they're going to be able to enforce this. Do you know how many more jails and prisons they're going to have to build in order to hold all of the people who are in this predicament? Still, so much for the well-being of the most destitute of Americans. I guess they have to be card-carrying members of Obama's administration to get out of all of this.

Actually, I thought it was a 2+% tax on your income. And if you couldn't afford to pay, then you get jailed. Either way, this caps the stupidity the idiot has done to date. I guess they will let out all the murderers and rapists so there will be room for the poor who can't afford healthcare. I'm not sure what they will do with the kids. I shudder to think.

You have got to be kidding! That is so crazy that I think someone needs their head checked out. I also wanted to make another comment about something you said. You said well at least if they are in jail they get free health care...I don't what state you live in but in KY the inmates do have to pay for their medical. Shoot they have to pay for an tylenol. It ain't cheap. So if an inmate don't have any money from family then they don't get any medical help. So this healthcare thing going on is getting way out of hand.
