I don't talk on the phone when it is storming. Most people don't relize how dangerous it is to talk on the phone while storming. If lighting hit a phone line you can be shocked or zapped. This can cause damage to your hearing and even cause you to be electricuted. That is not fun to have that happen to you. Talking on the phone while it is storming is not a smart idea. You should be very cautious when storming and thundering and lighting.

hello tucker,
thanks for the information, I do get static electrocuted in the computer when ever am done taking a bath and then accidentally touching the Desktop Computer. So, the possibility of thunder hitting on your phone lines and to your phone is relatively possible but we haven't experience it yet, i just hope it doesn't happen to either of my family

One can get struck by lighting even if a person is not talking on mobile phone. Better to stay in a safe place than walk around during a storm.

hello tuckersheri,
no, i never talk on the phone when it is storming. i'd rather sleep early than talking to someone else for the weather is so cold and the bed is so comfortable. this way, i can relax and have some more sleep. something that you can not do always.

My grandmother never let anybody talk on the phone during a storm, and my mom and uncle used to laugh at her until years later they found out she was right. We try to avoid the landline during storms, but I'm pretty sure cell phones are relatively safe. That said, we do get some news stories about cell phone batteries catching fire when they overheat, so who knows how safe anything is these days?

Just thought I'd mention after seeing your comment above that it is okay to start as many discussions as you like as long as they are not the quick one liners which will then be deleted. However you don't earn anything by posting discussions but only by replying to the responses you receive.

I never thought one should not talk while storming or raining. I usually talk through the phone while it is raining or storming. I think it is not a good idea to talk through the phone while it is raining. I think everyone should cautious while it is storming or thundering and lighting.

It just never happened. I think that if I had an important call to take or make, I'd definitly still have it despite the dangerous that the stormy conditions would bring. After all, it's not ALL THAT OFTEN that electrical accidents related to storms happen.

yes I do!
the odds of being zapped by lightning while on the phone are astronomical

Hi tuckersheri, no I don't do that at all as as soon as it starts lightening outside I unplug the telephone as previously the phone line has been struck by lightening twice disconnecting my service. Also when it's storming then I wouldn't be able to use the mobile anyway as I only get a reception on it here if I go outside and hang over the edge of the balcony which I wouldn't much fancy doing in the middle of a thunderstorm.

by the way you shouldn't ask so many questions. i forget why but it won't add too much to your earnings your posting to questions has to be more than how many discussions you have a day. if you have a question save it for later. you have over 10 questions on one page. if you don't be careful you might end up like me....run out of things to ask.
anyway back to your question i do talk on the phone when it storms i talk to my mom telling her to get on safe because she was in a real bad car accident one time trying to rush home because i was scared. and i'm not scared of getting shocked because i never heard of any cases of that happening

Is that actually true? I would think that starting new discussions would have more of an impact on your earnings and rankings than responses...maybe I have the wrong idea. That is useful information, Tiffany, thank you!

That is the worst thing to do. I'm sure a lot of people know what damages it would cause. But they do it out of impulse. Say, if you want to inform someone that you would be late to arrive, or simply to ask what's going on in their place, any weather updates as to if it would stop raining etc.

....Hi tuckersheri, If at all possible I try to stay off the telephone when it is stormy, As you stated it is dangerous. I read or heard somewhere, that a woman was killed while talking on the phone, lightning came directly through the phone, struck her and killed her. It is no joke, and I try to keep the telephone out of my hand and away from my ear, as I said during storms. My grandmother was struck by lightning while she was outside, she survived, but that is not something I would want to experience. Even if you don't hear thunder or see lightning, better not to talk on the telephone when there is heavy rain and a passing storm. We should also tell children about the hazard of talking on the phone during storms. Take care.

No, I never talk on the phone when it's storming. When I was a child I saw first hand exactly how dangerous that can be. We were sitting in the living room and the storm was raging outside. Lightning struck the phone pole across the street and it travelled down the phone line. Imagine our shock when the telephone exploded right in front of us! Unless it was a dire emergency, like a relative having a heart attack or something, I would never use the phone during an electrical storm. While I realize that our phone exploding like that could be considered a 'freak accident', none-the-less, it still proves that it can and does happen. Better to be safe than sorry!

I do not call anyone on the phone if it is lightning out. If though someone I know calls I will answer the phone and talk to them but not for very long. I have hear that also you should not be on the phone when it is lightning and thunder. I will have to check and see if there has even been anyone shocked or zapped from talking on the phone.

I try not to talk on the phone when it's storming, but I have done. My grandmother would have had a fit for this. According to my late grandmother, you didn't stand near a window during a storm. You didn't run outside when there was thunder or lightning. Most of all, you didn't talk on the phone when it was storming. I've been guilty of all of these things at one time or another. Don't tell on me.

Of course I do. I've heard rumors of people getting shocked or short-circuting their phones, but I don't believe them.
