Why we need the Patriot Act

I believe that's why the feds prematurely arrested this Zazi guy. 0bama was starting to get a lot of negative press from the right and the left for extending the patriot act. It is certainly timely that a couple of terrorists are rounded up by using evidence gathered by security cameras and surveillance. Unfortunately, it could pan out that since the timing of the arrests were premature, the terrorists will get off due to lack of concrete evidence. It was all circumstantial and the feds have a weak case, at least in Zazi's case.
Would DHS or the FBI rush these investigations and possibly jeapordize any convictions just to shore up the presidents popularity?

The Imam (who was tipped off/planning to tip off Zazi) is another factor, no doubt. This post was more about how 0bama's PR people will try to use these events to persuade everybody that his extending the Patriot Act is a good thing.

Of course they would.
The whole thing is nothing more than theater.
From what I have been reading, these people have been under investigation for a while, so this sudden rush for an arrest could only be politically motivated. If it now turns out to be hasty and sloppy, then these people will be turned loose to try again.
Like everything else under this administration, it was not well thought out.

"Those who would trade their essential liberties for a little security deserve neither liberty Or security"
~Benjamin Fanklin
The timing does seem suspicious doesn't it. I was personaly against the patriot act then and I am against it now. I think there are probably ways to guaranty our security with out trading the liberties our founders faught for.
