Marked Best Reponse

OK, so I am a conditioned member here on Mylot as I have been here for 3 years next month. I am a little unclear of all the politics behind the best response, and was hoping this could clear it for me - and others - if they don't know.
First of all, do you look to see if best response has been given? If it has been given, do you still reply or do you consider it a closed discussion? Do you hope to get the best response when putting down your ideas? I mean, do you strive to be the best in regards of information, opinion, or advice? Do you know how many, if any, best responses you have received?
Second, based on the rules of Mylot, we are not to duplicate topics. We are to check Mylot's search to see if one all ready exists. Well, let's say there was a topic all ready posted that is exactly your topic, or very very similar, but it has been marked with the best response. Does Mylot consider this cheating to go ahead and create the all ready-exisitng topic again, or would they agree the previous discussion was closed?
All thoughts welcome!!

Hi princess, I guess I should read the myLot rules, as it's more than three years since I joined, but let me tell you how I respond. Fisrt, I have my notifyer on, and read all my friends discussions, and respond to the ones I feel I can have some input to. I never think about best resopnse, but like to think my input has some benefit to the discussion. Before starting a discussion, I do a search, but so far haven't seen a previous discussion so similar to mine that I wouldn't start the new one. I have recieved many best responses, but just how many, I don't know. The question I would like to raise is how do we remove unresolved discussions when they don't have a response. Maybe it's time to read the rules again! Nah, have better things to do.

If you have a discussion with no responses, you can PM a friend and ask for help in getting a response. Once a response is added the discussion becomes active and will appear in the 'similar topics' on the right
of discussions with the same tags. That could cause it to receive even more responses.

If my topics go unanswered/unresponded, then I just learn to keep going. I don't PM anyone asking for help. I know I have the ability to generate quite good traffic if my post is popular. I have hit the "today's top discussions" many times. So if I have a low-traffic topic, I just assume it is not very popular and after a while of waiting, I write it off. I really wouldn't want others to ask me to participate in their slow forums. I am pretty active here on Mylot and scan through hundreds of threads each day, choosing the ones I feel most worthy of responding to. I don't answer to ones I don't understand, cannot relate to, or do not care for. Why bother? I keep my "job" fun here!

I think best response is made so you can see who has given the most thought to a question so any future reader of the topic can instantly look at the most valued opinion in the eyes of the question asker. Some people may disagree and in a way it may be the unspoken end to a topic but if a best response has been named I don't believe that it is the end of a conversation.

I know I read them-constantly because I look to learn what the "popular" answer could be. I also look to see what interets the asker in a form of length, content, and sincerity. I think it's a great feature here on Mylot. I give out best responses sparingly though however-I only give them if it is truly worthy of it.

Too many question and i found most of the questions are really good.
Theoretically, the posts after the best answer was chose by the thread opener, it shall be closed because the thread opener already find that the answer is good enough or the problem was solved. However, i found that mylot never "close" any posts, mean you can still answer on the thread with "best respond".
Personally i dont check whether the "best respond" has been given, just reply on the thread that i dont find any good answer or the thread i would like to comment.
Again, the poster actually shall search before start a thread, this is the common sense in forum posting. And again, mylot seems not really straight on this rules. And i can even see some of my answer at yahoo answer being copy and paste at mylot. Conclusion is mylot dont control much on the duplicate content or close any posts.

I appreciate someone who give me mark of best response, as far, I have received 3 marks. I know to be marked has nothing to do with my earning, but I still happy that my opinion is somewhat useful, and really appreciate to them that bother to mark.
About the doubled topics, I've seen a lot of similar topics, that makes sense, because you can't search very thoroughly to find out whether your topic is posted before, so in my opinion just post it without hesitation.

No, I never look to see if the best response has been given. I just never thought to do that. I just go ahead and reply to it, anyway. I've been noticing here lately that after I have replied, the best response has already been given. I would like to get the best response, let me put it that way. I just give my answers the best way I see them, if that makes sense. No, I don't know how many best responses I have. I guess I need to go back and check. I haven't always checked to see if there's a similar discussion. I forget sometimes but here lately, I've been making it a point to see if there are any already existing topics. I don't want to cheat. Kathy.

I give mark best response if someone give very good answer. I get 3 mark best response from mylot member, I always PM mylot member who give me best response. Yeah I see a lot of similar discussion topics in mylot, may be they are have same problem with me. I don't know how search discussion topics in mylot. I try to search from search bar above, but not success

Well I don't know about anybody else, but I charge $5 for a best response.
Just kidding...
I usually notice that a BR has been given, but if I'm interested in the discussion I will reply anyway. Sure I hope to get the best response, especially if I've really put a lot of thought into one.
I try to make my topics at least somewhat original. The search function on here isn't that reliable anyway.
As for what myLot does and does not consider cheating, I can only hazard a guess. If you exactly copy what somebody did, that's obviously cheating, but if you change it up? Depends. If you take one and change a few words, I'd say that was still cheating, but if you change the discussion, it's not. For example, one person does a discussion about cherry tomatoes and ways to use them in food. Then you post one about health benefits of cherry tomatoes. They're both about cherry tomatoes, yet they're totally different discussions.

When I see discussions that interest me, I will respond to htem regradless if there is a best response or not. That really has no bearing on it whatsoever. I don't post responses, thinking I have the best response, and I am not trying to get it. If I do, then great, but if I don't that is fine too. I have qu ite a few of them, but I have lost coumt as to how many. As far as repeated posts is concerned, as long as it is worded differently, theb it is acceptable. The thing I have seen lately though, is there are repeated discussions back to bacm and no time in between basically. I don't always post to all the repeated ones, as my anwer would probably be the same in all of them. I don't like responding to repeated ones all that well, anyway. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hi princess
for your part 1:
yes i do still reply to discussions that have already been given a best response, i do it if i find the topic quite interesting enough, i mean only when i feel like something there should have been or something others missed out on, i know i can't be awarded the best response but i still let the poster know about it, i am glad to help if i can . . . so i naturally give responses even after the best response has been given, and i don't consider them a closed discussion . . . hmm well like i said i respond to many discussion but i don't expect to receive best responses, i mean i try to be as good as i can be with the response but then there are some topics where i know i could write something more than others and these are the discussions where i can actually hope to get a best response, i am very glad when i get best responses and m sure many do feel the same . . . well i don't remember but i don't have too many best responses, just around 20 to 30 maybe, i will have to have a look...
for your part 2:
hmm we are allowed to post similar discussions, but only after quite some time has passed and no one replied to the other similar discussion for a long time . . . posting similar discussion isn't actually against the guidelines if that discussion has already been closed and i guess just because it is not always that others copy discussions, actually there are some discussions which people here coincidentally repeat, yes it happens, happened with me too . . . but don't get me wrong please, i don't mean to say that your discussion wasn't stolen, it was but also sometimes there are such discussions which are bound to be repeated without others knowledge and this would keep on happening, no one is to blame, the topic starter is just little ignorant enough to see whether a similar topic has already been posted, although it might be his/her original idea . . . it happens...
have a nice day princess!

If you are still asking those questions now after three years, imagine what kind and how many question marks are in our heads as newbies. I have been on MyLot for only 2 months now.I see these issues being aired a lot of times without any sure certain experiential explanation from fellow MyLotters. The only people who can answer these questions officially are the MyLot administration people and I think they should have a fresh new FAQ to resolve such issues.
