I just made spaghetti wiith ziti noodles for dinner tonight. I really like angel hair for spaghetti though. What noodle is your favorite and why? Elbows? Bowties? Penne? Fettucine?

I like penne just because of it's versatility. It's a robust enough noodle to go with a heavy meat sauce and the ends work beautifully to scoop up the solids, but it's also a great pasta for cream based sauces because it holds them in it's hollow centres. They're also great for casseroles. I always have a box on hand and in a pinch would use it for any pasta dish.

I am not big on fettuccini, but I do like many types of pasta. I love elbows and spirals, and also ziti, regular spaghetti noodles and angelhair is okay as well. Bowties are okay on occasion. I usually decide the type of pasta to use by what sauce I am serving. If it's a creamy sauce I will use something like egg noodles. If it's a lighter tasting delicate tomato sauce I will use a more delicate pasta such as angelhair or elbows. For heavier and robust tomato sauces, regular spaghetti, elbows, spirals, almost anything will work. In pasta salads, I often use ziti or spirals.

I absolutely love angel hair but my husband is not a fan so I usually end up enjoying it when we dine out somewhere. If I see an item on the menu that features angel hair I zone right in on it. As for noodles, I'd have to say ridged penne is my favorite. I like using ridged noodles because they hold onto the sauce so well.
