It sounds like you need to get another battery. The connection from the computer is not signaling the battery to charge. It could be the battery itself.

I would either get a new battery or contact dell. It is possible your battery is on the list of batteries that were recalled. If it is on that list, dell might replace the battery free or at a reduced amount. But you will not know unless you start asking questions. I know I need to replace my battery. I have checked. The price is very high. So until I can afford it, I run off of my power cord.

Hey, you should actually tell the time you have been using it. If its more than couple of years chances are that your battery has weared off. Contact customer support of dell. If your service period provided by dell is not over, ask them to replace it. However, if your service period is over, then you should at least get it checked. If you have tried everything, then you have only one choice and that is to buy a new battery.

How old is your laptop and the battery itself? Try to remove the battery and reinsert it. Ensure that it is in its place securely. There was a time when the battery in my laptop was loose and I had this issue. Try checking this out. If this is not the issue, then see if you can check the health of your battery. (In HP we have a software for this, not sure what the equivalent in Dell)
