My son had been coughing alot for the past few day, he is acting fine so I know he isn't super sick but I can't seem to get rid of the cough! What do you give your kids when they just have a cough? He is four and I have been giving him regular kids cough medicine. Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks!

As far as remedying the cough during the day, I have used Delsym for my children since my pediatrician recommended it to me when my daughter was two year old. That stuff is awesome and I even use it myself when I have a cough. It works for 12 hours and it doesn't taste nearly as bad as regular cough syrup. I'd also try to vent out your house if possible because it is possible that there is some kind of an allergen that is causing him to cough. Also, make sure that there is enough humidity in the house. That was another place that I always found exacerabting a cough was when the home is too dry.

I'm glad to know it works for someone!!! I gave it to both of my kids and they are still coughing but I'm hoping when they get up in the morning it will be better!

Hi Crys Don't worry. Your son will stop coughing soon. Whenever my children coughs, i will give them a concotion made out of liquorice and some other herbs. For immediate relief, i will give a clove and ask them to keep it in the side of a cheek inside the mouth, but do not bite but keep swallowing the water, the clove gives after soaking with the saliva in the mouth. After 3 minutes, cough stops. Or fry 10-12 black pepper corns in 1/2 teaspoonful of ghee and ask him to eat those peppercorns along with ghee. immediately the cough stops or take one glass of hot milk, add 3 pinches of pure turmeric powder, black pepper corn powder and ask him to drink without adding sugar. Try these tricks for cough

I would try childrens musinex. I'm not sure if I spelled that right. But you know the commercial with the boogers that move into the guys chest? lol that is the one. they made a childrens of it and it seemed to work pretty well. I told the adult version and seemed to get over my cough a lot fast than I ever had with any other medicine.

after a cold, the cough is the last thing to go so i wouldnt worry. i think giving him cough suppresents are ok but in moderation. i would talk to your doctor or even your pharmasist who could be able to help you.

There are a few other things you can do. a cool mist humidifier is sometimes helpfull, also, if it a caugh that doesn't seem to be producing anything (mucus) try taking him in to the bathroom and running the shower for a litle bit with full on hot water for a bit, though of course you don't actualy want to put him IN the shower, just in the bathroom. this may help get the junk up. you have to remember, a caugh is not always a bad thing, it is our bodies natural method for expelling unwanted stuff from our lungs. If a caugh is bringing stuff up, you may not nessesarily want to stop it too much.

My son has a cough right now, and i have got the childrens cough medicine, and also, keep the room cool, as the humidity makes it worse. A hot shower usually helps, when they have a cold, it eases it.
