Do you weather the weather?

Does the weather affect your mood. If it's sunshiny and warm, I tend to be happy and full of energy. If it's rainy I think about snuggling up with a good book. I invariably don't but I love to listen to it and watch it. It is so good to see rain here so it also gives me good feelings...my garden is getting a lovely fresh drink. Cold and bleak weather finds me quite miserable unless I've been able to get the house warm with a fire but sometimes it is just too cold. The weather I hate most of all is the wind. It has me on edge with a tendency to feel unwell. Today looks like it will be a sunny happy day...a bit hard to tell as it has just gone 6 am here in Australia. Does the weather affect how you deal with your day?

Hi Ms Tickle, Yes, I do love the sunny weather and the rainy ones if I am indoors, I love listening to it as well but like you I hate the wind as it can destroy fences in your garden and can be very dangerous, dull gloomy days don't really worry me as I am all cozy up with my Laptop and friends from all over the world to talk to, we have to love our seasons as its nature at work. Hugs. Tamara

Hi tamara, it's not so much the destruction caused by the wind although that is bad enough. It's the sound it makes blowing through the trees and the whistles and howls as it goes between buildings and such. I can't really explain it properly, it puts me on edge somehow.

I know what you mean with this exactly. But for Singapore, it's getting hotter by the day; and it's been a few days now. I wish it was a bit cooler so I could sleep well during the days that I'm not working. The weather tend to affect how I deal with the day. I could become moody all of a sudden, and sometimes overtly happy. In my tropical country, I do appreciate the cold, windy weather at least 80% of the time.

Hi Zed...I lived in Singapore for 2 years when I was around 20 years of age. Once I became acclimatised I thrived there. The weather suited me perfectly for some reason, I loved it.

I think the name of the street in the first place was Stewart Avenue, a little way outside of Changi. Then after about 6 months there we moved to Seletar Hills.

Really?? Coolio.. LOL..... If you don't mind telling, which part of SG did you stay? Like the area, can you remember. The weather's getting hotter by the day for this month, at least. But I know what you mean. Being in a cold country for years, then to come to SG would be pure heaven, LOL. I'd love some cold weather...

Hi MsTickle! It's surprising how the weather does affect our mood. Warm, sunny weather tends to make me full of beans and happy with life. Living in Australia like you, it's always good to see the rain because we don't get enough of it, so I love it also when it rains - as long as it doesn't last too long lol! The cold weather makes me want to snuggle up with a good book and a bag of lollies! I hate the wind though - it makes me feel irritable! Today we are having a clean up inside and outside the house after the horrific dust storm we went through last week - there is red dust everywhere, including all over the car! That kind of weather I can do without and hope I never experience it again!

We had a second storm, a minor one come through as well. People were saying they spent all day Saturday (after the first storm) cleaning and I felt so sorry for them. I don't know how they could clean everything in one day. I have wooden floors and rugs. I dry mopped my bedroom floor then swept it then let the dust settle again then vacuumed. I can still hear the crunchiness when I walk on my floor in places. That dust is everywhere and it will take me a long time to get rid of it all properly. I live in the middle of NSW in a tiny village west of Tamworth Abbey, where are you?

You got that dust storm a lot worse than we did up here in Queensland, although it was bad enough up here, so I feel sorry for you guys. I live in Maryborough, on the Fraser Coast, a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane. We started our cleanup yesterday, and only got as far as the verandah's on the front and side of the house! It took us hours, because everything had to be washed down more than once. I still have to re-do the windows out there! Today we are starting on the back deck and also the car as that too, is covered in red dust. Goodness knows when we will get round to doing the inside. As you say, you clean and then the dust settled back so you have to do it again - and again. Thankfully, these dust storms only happen once in a while!

I used to live at Strathpine ...I loved Queensland and went through Maryborough a few of times on the way to Fraser Island. We are having another dust storm today and it's mixing with the dust already down and making everything streaked with mud. Oh dear...it will take months to get everything cleaned. Even my spare room which is sealed has a layer of fine dust over everything.

I love wind - I once stood on the front of a boat - well actually a lake ferry - in Switzerland and had a storm blowing around me and just enjoying the HELL out of it! Probably one of the best boat ride we took on that whole trip - and we took a lot of good ones! (another good one was on an underground lake in Austria) heck, if my folks could get us kids on a boat, they were happy

Actually, that does sound like fun and I think out in the open on a boat in the wind would probably be quite exhilarating. An underground lake in Austria you say, that sounds good too. I will put that on my list of places to visit when I do my world tour.

Obviously weathers decides my mood buddy...I love only winter season and spring the most because its always chilling and when the snow drops touches us it feels simply great..... When its spring i simply love going on for a long walk which makes me more energetic and refreshing.....then automatically i will be in a good mood then i will keep smiling always...only when our mind is fresh, our thoughts will be innovative and we will keep our minds in beta level....

Yes the weather does affect my mood, an awful lot in fact. Just lately after three poor summers I find myself craving for sunny weather. Although this summer was definately better than the last two. I got up this morning to rain, really hard rain and I was immediately down, mainly because I knew I had to take the children to school in it and we walk so I was in for a soaking! But miserable cold weather just makes me feel down and I am permanently cold too!

Hi gemini, haven't seen you for an age. I got a soaking too this morning when I was washing the car and changing the sprinkler round. I'm inside now ans yes, I'm cold and wishing I didn't have to go and change or do my other inside chores. It's a beautiful day today and I've watered the garden, cleaned one side of the house and washed the car. There is still lots to do though.

sometimes if its going to rain, i have my arthritis acting up badly and can barely move. but in general i dont mind when it is raining a nice soft cool rain because once it starts im ok. and then i love to just smell it the nice clean smell if its not rainy all the time like in florida and its not awful windy.

I am getting to that stage as well bunny. I get aches and pains and it hurts to move my hands, one shoulder and my back is stiff and achy. I have to figure out what is happening and when. I'm still young and so not ready for the pain of arthritis to pull me up.

Hi MsTickle! I think that you have given a pretty good description of some of my moods about weather! I do wish that I had a fireplace when the weather gets really cold here! I always tell my friends kiddingly that I am going to make a fire in my livingroom when the apartment gets so cold in winter since my landlord doesn't provide us with enough heat! I live in an apartment and no, I have no fireplace!lol I sometimes also love it when it rains and I can be inside watching the rain come down curled up with some hot tea! I feel the same way as you do about the wind though. There is something forbodding about wind. It is mysterious and sort of scary. It can cause damage so maybe that is why the feeling that it is ominous. There is still nothing better than a nice sunny day, although in the winters here when it is zero degrees the sunny days are not of much use when there is snow on the ground! It still is freezing outside!lol

I'm quite surprised that my weather moods seem to be shared by so many. I'm always amazed at the world around me and the way that animals react to the weather. I'd like to be more familiar though with snow and iced over lakes and melting streams. I have seen such things on TV but I would love to explore such things. Does it ever get very sunny round about the same time it has snowed and how long does the snow take to melt? Is it all a slushy mess? That would make me pretty peed off I imagine...

Hi, MsTickle Yes, most of the time it does. I live in a tropical country so it's quite the reverse for me. Sunny days mean hot days for me so I easily get irritated. Especially if I have to go out of the office and walk under the heat of the sun. Rainy days, however, are a delight for me because that would mean it won't be a hot day. I am more energetic then. Have a nice day!

I know how you feel. I lived in Singapore when I was a young Mum and I remember how hot sticky and uncomfortable things were when we first arrived...it was overwhelming the heat and humidity. As I grew accustomed to it though I absolutely loved it. Sure it was great to go shopping in the city in air conditioned comfort but the heat was okay for me and the rain was just wonderful

To a certain degree yes.If it is sunny and warm it normally makes me feel happy and cheerful but if it is hot for two long it makes me tired and I get fed up.If it is to cold for to long that gets me down as well. It all depends on the what I am up to as well and what I have to look forward to.if if is cold and bleak it does tend to get me down more though. As long as I can get out and do what I need to do then it is not to bad,it is being stuck indoors for to long is the killer.

I love being able to be inside and cool in the too hot weather and inside and cosy when the weather is windy or dismal. It's great I find to get chores done early so you have the day to avoid unpleasant things.
29 Sep 09
I found out that my mood is directly proportional to the amount of sun that I see. I am happier and ready to tackle anything if it's a sunny day. I don't mind some rain because after a really hot day, it is refreshing and even cleansing. Too much of it, however, dampens my spirits. I just want to stay in all day long. Blue skies, sunny days and cool weather. That is my favorite. I also don't mind snow but it should have lots of it, dry and blue skies. Sigh... if we could only choose the weather for the day.

You make lovely weather sound perfectly idyllic. I've never seen snow...how I wish I could experience that...just once. I think we need not so nice weather to truly appreciate the good days.
29 Sep 09
I don't see snow anymore since I'm in the Sunshine State (FL) now. I should visit my brother in Chicago where they have tons of snow every winter (lots of blizzards too). I guess it is summer now in the southern hemisphere? How hot does it become?

Yes it does, I think that is normal with most people. Thats why winters can be so hard on people, its cold, dreary, grey skys, depressing weather. Its nice to have warm sunshiny days. Springtime I feel is a happy weather time. It seems everyone, people, animals and even bugs are happy. Where I live we have all 4 seasons of weather, of course I don't know about how the weather is in your seasons.

I am probably the opposite to most people in that my moods actually go DOWN with the hot weather and UP with the cold! I can't tolerate the heat, or more so the humidity and stickiness, which we get in the Summer months and the heat affects my depression, so if it's cold and windy then I am happy, if it's hot and humid then I am grumpy, grouchy and lethargic. I am more active in the Winter months and tend to go out MORE rather than less. I am much happier when I am cold. I think I should have been born in Iceland or Scandinavia LOL!

Or you should have been born rich so you could afford to live somewhere in air-conditioned comfort with a pool! I do know what you mean though. I remember when I was working and trying to pull on pantyhose during the hot weather...that's horrible. And I hate when it gets so hot that you cannot breathe properly and your energy is sapped. I find if I stick my head under the shower or if outside the hose then that little bit of relief lets me keep going and eventually I become acclimatised....usually as the season is changing.

I don't work any longer but I surely do remember those days when I had to get up and dressed ready to battle the elements on the way to work. It was very hard sometimes. But, it makes you appreciate the weekend when you can lie in bed a little longer.

Yes, i do like cold crisp autumn weather, it is relaxing somehow, the air is fresh, and crisp, and i adore the colours in the trees etc. I hate the winter, all bleak and grey sky, i always get a bit down, and moody. The summer is nice, but i dont like it too hot, it makes me tired, and i cannot be bothered to do much. I like the rain, somedays, i make the house all cozy, and like to look at it, and again, it replenishes my garden ;)
