let's say you broke the law & was sentenced to either US$1,000 fine or 2 weeks in jail.
which will you choose?
if this happened to me, i don't prefer to have a jail record, but i am unable to earn US$1,000 in 2 weeks. so i might just choose bribery! LOL! just kidding!
anyway, what's your choice & why?

If worse comes to worst, no money to pay with no good alternative at all, I have to choose for jail term. For two (2) weeks, I'll compose one set special writing articles; poem, song/lyrics, and ebook. Hopefully, on my release (free) date I already got something to turns me be an overnight millionaire.....hahaha!

Don't worry about that, if there are evils I am their 'Father of Evils'. Similarly, if they are angels I am their 'Father of Angels'. Kids cannot override father-ship.....hahaha!

LOL! good idea! but that also depends on the condition of the jail & your jail-mates. they might be disturbing you all the time & so you are unable to concentrate on developing your ideas.

Whoah, what could you have done to be fined $1,000???
But let's say that there indeed is something like that, I'd rather stay 2weeks in jail. Regardless if I pay or stay there, I will still have a record. Nobody there knows me, and for sure if I did something wrong, I deserved that.
I think it's better to stay in jail than to borrow money for bail, wouldn't you think? Because you'd be admitting doing wrong and spreading the word to your friends (because you're borrowing money, right?)
So it's better to just stay there, silently, without all the people you know knowing it, at least for now.

what a thought! totally 100% in contrast with the responder above. i agree with you & might do the same as you said, only if i do not have the $1,000 to pay immediately. but if i have it, i will just pay it & try to earn back later on in my life.:)

I would choose to pay the $1,000 fine. My husband would bail me out of any mess because he knows I'd be totally miserable being in jail for two weeks. He might need his underwear washed before that time...lol I do take care of our youngest grandbaby several times a week and need to be on call for my "grandma" job. So spending the money would be an advantage to my mental health status!

LOL! you are indeed a 'high-tech' granny. let's say if you are given a television & a computer (with internet access), would you like to stay in the jail? there's a responder mentioned that it happens in the UK's jail.

I will opt to pay the fine, if i'm not working.. haha =D Because i wont wanna be rejected or whatever just because i have been jailed?? JUst hearing it, or seeing the word 'convict' or 'jailed', will turn most employers away, regardless of what crime it is.. lol =D
BUt if i'm working, i will definitely be paying off the fine, even though i cant manage it on my own.. IT's either i turn to my frenz or boss or even relatives for help, i will still do it.. As i wont wanna be sacked after i've done serving my 'sentence'?? lol =D

no, you can take 2 weeks holiday leave & tell the boss that you are going on a vacation (so you won't be sacked after you return from your 'sentence'). but actually you spend the 2 weeks inside the jail. when you return & your boss ask about your vacation, you just say "it's very boring & exactly as if i have spent my vacation in a jail." your boss will treat it as a joke. LOL!

Wait - 2 DAYS or 2 WEEKS? (Your title says 2 days, and in your actual discussion it says 2 weeks. Which is? That would make quite the difference. ). I think I would actually choose the $1,000, only because jail is pretty dangerous from what I hear. People get beat up, raped, murdered, etc - I don't know if I could do it. If it were a womens correctional facility or juvy or something like that (a little less severe of a place), then definitely I would take the 2 weeks. I don't make $1000 in 2 weeks either - divide that by 3, and MAYBE (just maybe lol). But i would definitely take the fine.

oops! i made a mistake! thanks for correcting! i meant US$1,000 or 2 WEEKS jail term.
as you have mentioned how dangerous the condition is in the jail, i might also choose to take the fine because with a good record & a healthy body, we can earn back the money even if it is much slower.:)

Its a fine and sometimes if yatalk to judge or the court clerk ya just might get to make payments but ya really need to know the clerk real good.
If the jail is nice and pretty clean might just spend the jail time for no way could I come up with that amount at any time1

Given that I have 5 kids, who scream the place down for no reason or fight with each other like they are gladiators, I think I would choose the 2 weeks in prison.
For me, finances aren't good, and getting $1000 together just isn't possible. A 2 week break sounds good. All meals paid for, no rent to pay, no nappies to change, and adults to talk to instead of the gibbering monkeys my girls turn into!

Of course I would miss my kids, but i wouldn't miss the mess, constant fights and the noise!
My partner does most of the parenting these days (I have bad sleep habits at the moment) so he would certainly be able to look after them in my absense. Except for one thing, he does not know how to use the washing machine.
A nice, quiet holiday would be nice, but I doubt prison would be all that quiet, and I wouldn't be allowed to take my sewing with me. Maybe paying the $1000 would be better, and I know my parents would loan it to me (at high interest)if I really needed it.

suppose washing machine is to help people with but nowadays it is very much complicated to use.
you are right. if you don't want to see your kids fighting, the other option is to see prisoners fighting.

you seem to have a little perssure taking care of your 5 kids. maybe not just a little pressure.
but if you are in prison, who will be taking care of them?
also, you will surely miss them.

Hi Victory,
If we broke the law then only we face the situation, isn't it, then my preference not to broke law.
It is difficult for me to think about jai and I can’t make the money because it is really high so you can’t blame me on my preference.
How are you? You are not in the place for a long time. Hope you are doing well.

I wonder if you can pay fines with a credit card... (LOL) I would not want to choose jail because number one I would be terrified of going to prison if it was only for two weeks and number two I would not want a criminal record to my name so I would beg, borrow and definitely not steal the money!

Ok this is very easy for me. I would pay the $1000.00 dollar fine to avoid doing a two week jail time. I would not want to spend an hour in jail let alone two weeks. The thought of it is so creepy and scary to me. Now if I didn't have the money I know my family would come up with it to bail me out. Thank God I have never been in trouble with the law and don't intend to in my lifetime.

Bribery and being in jail are not a nice option.. I prefer none, of course. The best thing we should do is to keep ourselves away from danger and stupidity. Rest assured that when we opt to do the right thing and make ourselves aware of what we're suppose to do, then I'm sure you will never have to choose between being in jail and paying a fine.

I never thought you guys will react that way. What I'm trying to say is that, life is too short to spend it in complication. We only have one life here on earth, and spending a few years of it in prison is a waste of time, and paying a fine is a waste of money. One privilege that our Creator has given us is freedom. It's either to choose the good things or the bad. If we want to live a good life and enjoy the rest of it, we have to be careful in things we choose and with the decisions we make. I have nothing against your opinion mythman, that's your perception and i have mine too.

I'd take the two weeks free accommodation, there's no way I could pay the fine on my pension. And a criminal record at my age wouldn't make much difference.

I rather pay the fine then spend two weeks in jail. There is no privacy in jail and the other inmates can be rude. If put in isolation then I could go crazy from boredom. I don't know which is worse abuse or isolation.

In the first placre, even if you opt to pay a fine, your record of conviction will still remain. Secondly, you might say you will resort to bribery but you are not sure that you can bribe everyone. Thirdly, if you canno raise US$ 1000 for your fine, how could you possibly be able to pay a bribe since a bribe is not just peanuts? Anyway, to answer your question, it would always be better to pay the fine instead of serving the jail sentence since you are never sure wqat can happen to you in jail. You might be placed in a cell with some perverts or whatever and you moight suffer more than a jail sentence so borrow or steal just so you can pay the fine.

you are indeed a thinker & really thoughtful. but in your last line you mentioned that stealing to pay the fine, that might get one convicted for another offense which might ended up with a higher sentence.:(

Hello my friend victorywp Ji,
Well, to be true, I will try all my best to pay fine and never enter jail, as I may not come out as I might have gone inside. The mere feeling of Jail life itself is a punishment. But at the same time, my hubby may prefer to remain in jail, as he always things of many such adventerous life. In fact, while he was studying for his graduation in 'Criminology and Forensic Sciences', he did some research work about jailed people for their behaviour and reasons governing. So ne may save $1000.May god bless You and have a great time.

It depends. To people who could pay $1000 fine, I guess most of them would pay the fine instead of staying in jail. But don't forget that there are still many people who are deprived of the right to choose. To people who are unable to pay $1000, 2-week imprisonment is the only choice for them.
