What's your opinion of flying?

Does it make you anxious, or are you totally at ease? I ask because I had my first flying experience last weekend, and while I thought it was totally cool and interesting, I can understand how some people might feel unnerved and anxious on a plane - especially at take off, and when it's turbulent. I experienced a shaky landing, myself, which threw us off a little bit, and freaked me out a little bit, but other than that - I am totally positive about flying and hope to do it again real soon. What about you? Do you feel at ease flying, or is it something you try to avoid at all costs? Do you feel like driving is the safer alternative?

I often travel by plane, but when I remember the past, first time I fly of course it feels very exciting. First time I saw earth surface from above with my own eyes, I can't stop looking out through window. Today even I often traveling by plane I still have some nervous feeling, especially when I fly in bad weather condition. When take off and landing it still make me feel uneasy because lots of plane accident happen between that time. I even experienced plane incident myself but thank God I still survive. Of course that incident happen in the bad weather, one of plane engines gone off, smoking, approximately when I am 29000 feet above the sea. Can you imagine how panic passenger inside the plane including me. I don't know it's miracle of what, somehow pilot can still maintain the plane flying and reach nearest airport safely, no one hurt in that accident, but still that experience leave small trauma for me.

I can imagine that would be quite tramatic, even if you all ended up unharmed. Goodness. I'm glad to hear that everything was OK, though!

I am a fligth instructor, and love to fly. I'm glad you finally got a chance to. I wanted to just say though that flying is safer than a car. Accident rates are much lower for an airplane than for a car...and that is why you see so many more publicities of aircraft accidents/crashes than car crashes - because they are so much more rare - and more of a story because of it.

I really enjoy flying and always look forward to it. I know many people who are wary of flying, although I have never understood the concern. My first flight was from England to Italy many years ago and I had no apprehension about it at all. Since then I have flown on numerous occasions and would love the chance to fly more often.

I enjoy flying. Takeoff, landing and random turbulence are my favorite parts. You don't really feel them while flying in a big plane but when you're in a small plane, even passing through clouds will shake it up a little.

It has been a long time since I last flew in a plane. I sure do miss the experience though! I have a plan to go up in one of those microlight aircraft! I must be mad but I'm trying to challenge myself to do this! I think that flying is very exciting and well it's great to be up there in the air for a few hours, pure escapism! Anyway I'm glad that you had a positive flying experience. I'm sure that your future flying experiences can only get better! Good luck. Andrew

I am very keen on traveling and the only practical way to reach far away destinations is by plane. I have visited Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, the Seychelles, the Maldives, Kenya and South Africa. It is amazing to be able to go to sleep on a night flight from London in the winter and to arrive in Cape Town in the summer 12 hours later. I think of a plane as being useful and helpful to my travel plans. Two things worry me: airlines I want to go on going out of business so getting travel insurance that will cover that is a good idea. Also several planes have had fatal crashes lately. I have stayed safe I am pleased to say on all the flights I have been on. A bumpy flight from London to Sfax via Tunis was awful. Happy traveling.

Hey you, finally got flying experience already. Congratz! =) Great to know that your first flight experience was running well. It is normal that sometimes the airplanes face turbulence in the sky high and a little bit shaking when landing. But that must be one wonderful experience afterall. Well, talking about which one is safer, I think both of them are about the same. Have their own risk and costs us money.

I was terrified the first time I flew. I was all but certain that we would crash and I would die. Every little bump of jump made me want to scream. We had two connections so each way we took off and landed three times and each time I did get a little better. By the last leg of the trip home it was no big deal at all. But I'm pretty sure I left nail grooves in the arm rest on that first take off! It's just a very strange, surreal feeling but I guess like anything else you get used to it the more you do it.

I've flown a lot of times, but I'm still not at ease with it. I fly because it is the easiest and fastest way to get to some places, but if I could travel conveniently by car or other land transportation I would. I don't like the fact that I could rely only on a life vest under my seat if the plane crashes. There should be a parachute too.

Love flying. Dream about it all day long. Except I don't dream about flying in a plane or helicopter... I believe it was man's ability, when commanded to govern over the birds of the air, to fly. No wings, no cape...just fly. Obviously, that isn't the case anymore, but there are several documented (St. Joseph) occurences of actual human flight...if I could only fly, I could be satisfied in that freedom. Have a great day! I like traveling by planes. I think its fun being way up in the air and its alot faster then driving. Some poeple don't like planes cuz they get motion sickness. But Yea, it gets pretty shakey when theirs turbulence and landing/ taking off. But one thing I don't get is they half a light that turns on for no smoking when you can't smoke on a plane in the first place....lol

i totally love flying, however i have only been on a plane 3 times. flying is my case is the same as being a passenger in a car or on a bus. it doesnt feel different, however when ever i the plane is about to land my feet seem to feel sore for some reason, although i really enjoy flying.
