I'm working as an English teacher in China,In my class, sometimes I show students interesting films and learn English from them. Then in one class, our superior called me up in his office and reminded me it made no sense to see films in class, but I made myself clear and said " Even when someone knows if they will be able to speak English like actors do, they will make up their mind to make it come true!" Am I right? Please share your ideas here, thanks.

I am from India and i never used to go on any spoken English classes to learn English. I developed mt spoken skills by training myself, On my lot I learned so much thing about English, and i use to watch engligh movies to understand the way to speak English. It helps me better to speak English in foreign style.

You're cool to study all by yourself! I never tried that before, because only with teachers,we can develop our speaking reasonably. and,I'm happy to see you are happy here,me too. You're such a hard-working guy:-)

The very first thing is that I am a girl, and the another thing in myself is " I do not use to do hard work, I always use to do heart work."
It create more confidence to complete the work with planning.

Watching movies is absolutely a good method to learn English, especially to those who doesn't live in an English speaking country. Through watching movies, learners could feel the natural English, knowing how English is used in daily life. So don't doubt the effect of this method. But you'd better not forget the fact that passing examinations is the main goal in the current educational system of China. To those old teachers including your superior, doing exercises is the most effective way to achieve that goal. From this point, they are also right.

Absolutely! First, there's a large amount of work I should do to make students interested in English learning, second, what you've mentioned , is the examination .
In China, people care about the exam results most than everything! We spent days and nights to looking for ways how to make students handle the target knowledge as fast and simple as possible...I'm really doing a exhausting job--it not only requires the ability of teaching and "platform" presenter and consultance and ...
oh,everything makes me crazy sometimes. anyway,it's my choice, wish that I can always love it. Thanks again for your comment.

The best way to learn English is to live in an English speaking environment and pick up the way people express themselves. If this is not possible, the next best thing to do is to watch films that transport us to that virtual environment and listen to how the way native speakers speak. I used this method when I studied the Thai language many years ago and it helped me a lot. Not only we learn new vocabularies, but above all, we learn the intonation and the correct context the words are used.
Visual arts is a great help in teaching and learning since many of the things we see and hear are retained in our memories.

Hi Manong05,your responsed should be marked as the most classic one, shall I?:-)
First, kids are not allowed to go aborad because of the lack of money...
second,it's the most effort I'd like to take to get children touched with virtual environment, but it's hard to come true...
so,the best way may be to try to make the class as most impressed as possible.
Thanks again for your comment.

it makes people feel like speaking good English and provoke them to do the same too.
to feel like an important personality they do have to talk English smoothly and that can be done through hard work and watching movies but be sure that you are learning how to speak and not enjoying the movie more.

Thanks for your reminding. I should admit children of teenages are most interested in funny and relaxing things more than things they needs effort to achieve,I will keep your idea clearly in mind, thanks again for your comment.

You are right of course .As I know, Many students of china study english are just for examination. They can read ,get high score ,but cann't speak out .This is to say ,it's poor in their use .Watching interesting movies could imporve the listening .The students could learn to communicate with each other .This is the purpose.
