Yes, just what do you think is the real job of a law enforcement officer like the police?
Enforce the law, prevent crime, control an uncivil act from escalating? If, your answer is a firm yes and in agreement with me, then I am sure what you are about to read here will definitely go down well with yourself.
We have a helpless and defenseless mother beaten up by thugs at her own home and in her hour of distress was discouraged by the police for a call in.
You may ask for what reason(s)?
Well, would you believe if I tell you that it was for fear that the situation will escalate for the victimized mother if the police were to turn up.
What a load of crap? Can you believe this? What is really happening in UK?

syankee525,
I am happy and all for a good and established system. Yet, we have a reputable and established system but disappointingly crime prevailed over justice.
Isn't this shocking? Unacceptable?
Just where and what went wrong here? And, how?
I am just baffled and bewildered by this and it is just not the UK I used to know.

It is high handed behavior on the part of police.I feel these incidents take place because police feel there is no one to check them. There have been incidents of police brutality even in India.I think the police officer must have been out of his mind to batter a poor defenseless woman. There is a saying in local language here if the fence in a field eats the crop who is there to protect the crop.

picjim,
Having visited your country quite on a number of occasions I do understand the rampant corruptions and police brutality, but sometimes I feel that the environment is partly to be blamed too.
I have seen a few incidents and sometimes it is really difficult to determine who the assailant and victim as such there is just too much confusion around. However, I am just disgusted and disappointed with this happening in a country like UK. This is just sad and certainly made a different impression of this country I once have and knew.
Is society regressing nowadays?

I just read the news article. What a load of rubbish! Are the police paid their salaries from taxes collected from citizens of the United Kingdom? That is how we pay the police department's employees here in the United States. I think that is just plain awful that she is being victimised like that and the police are telling her not to report the problem and not taking her complaints, etc. That is their job to serve and to protect the public, not the criminals.
I hope she can move out of there and get on with her life. What city did that happen in? I have always wanted to visit England; I have always had romantic visions of the country, but when I read stories like that it makes me think twice.
Well, I will pray for that poor lady. I don't know what else I could do.
Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

schulzie,
I believe she is in a town called Kenilworth, in Warwickshire.
Well, I am just as shocked as you are here but unfortunately it is true. And I just do not envy being in that place or the victim's position. I do not know what is the term for those police officers but I do not think gross misconduct is suitable. One thing for sure, they ought to be SHOT@!
You have a nice day as well.

Sadly they are in control and there really is nothing we can do about it. they have fixed the voting systems in he US to benefit them not create fairness of choice. rather we want to believe it or not, freedom will soon be a thing of the past.
Newspaper today said the lawyer for Otto Zehms mother found out the 911 audio tape given to them by the police has been doctored.....go figure

skysuccess.. I have never want to trust the police at times.. I have a few occasions with the police in my country.
S1 - Police was called in after we noticed my house being broke into, and after taking all the necessary finger print and so forth, the conclusion from the police was "we will check with our record system if the finger print match any of the criminal records, however if this is the first time, then we will not be able to trace the person who broke into your house"
S2 - A small thief try to jump into my house compound, and a passer-by noticed and call to us. When we were at the police station, after taking the statement from us, the police says they will never able to trace this person, as the police are very sure that the vehicle plate is not genuine. The police didn't even check!
S3 - My aunt was robbed in front of her house, and the police who were all on they check duty at the foot of the hill, came up only after the robbing and told us that they actually saw the whole action, but won't come up coz it's a no entry sign at the road!
I won't be surprise if this news happen!

cwong77,
I understand what you are going through here and your country's problematic law enforcement.
These discrepancies just makes one wonder if society has actually regress than progress sometimes and sadly it is just becoming more rampant.

The situation in Spokane is true. The police murdered an innocent disabled man in a mini mart three years ago and the city said the killing was justified so those 7 officers have stayed on the payroll these last 3 years. Finally the federal government indicted the first responding officer for taking away the victims free liberty and lying to investigators.
One year after the above killing a off duty Spokane cop went into a bar to get drunk he had already been drinking before he got to the bar, at some point he went outside to take a nap in a friends car, at some point a guy came up to the car and asked for a ride. The cop gave chase in his truck and tracked the other guy down. While the other guy was running away the drunken cop fired 5 rounds with a loaded weapon he had on him. Hitting the other guy in the head. Luckily it did not kill him and he was able to stumble to a house and got some help. The cop never called 911; he only called his lawyer and the police guild. Police can carry their weapons in most places but it is against federal law to carry while intoxicated. The cop said the guy tried to steal his truck so with in 3 months that had the other guy in court but forensics proved he was never in the cops truck, the city waited 2 years for the trial of the cop and he was found not guilty.
There is no justice is Spokane if you are smart you will stay away if you do not believe me, look it up for your self search words, are. Otto Zehm,. Shonto Pete, Jay Olsen, Spokane police department.

I believe that a policeman first job is to bring peace and security for people. Secured them for some crimes and bring peace for those who had a misunderstanding. Policeman will take place their responsibility to serve people not to use their power against people.

irene3184,
My exact sentiments here.
I just feel that nothing will help cool boiling bloods here than a strong reprimand and disciplinary action on this irresponsible officer. She should not be in the force at all in the first place, if you know what I mean.

Here in Spokane Washington our police can basically break every law on the books and get off. Because no one will prosecute them our county prosecutor is an ex cop and will not charge them with anything.
our only hope is the federal government they seemed to have woken up and are raining down on the Spokane police department, a long time coming I tell you, in the last 18 years they have killed 42 people.
The police are out of control everywhere after 9/11 police brutality has escalated, because now we are all terrorists and in order to protect us they need to be able to kill us, for the common good.
The police should be upholding the laws, and be held at a higher standard because they do have the power to take life.

lewis8457a,
This is really unbelievable, coming from where you are.
Is this for real?
I am just shocked to the core here. Tell me this is not another detective thriller in real life. I hope that things will be addressed at the end of the day at your place and I just hate for everyone to run away with murder, all the time.
Take care and happy myLotting.

lewis8457a,
Thank you for making the effort to share this unfortunate incident of police brutality and misconduct in Spokane.
Though, I am shocked beyond words here, yet I must point out that it had already happened some time back and the errant police taken to task. I just hate to think that Spokane will be lawless today. Not being a sympathizer but I feel that there should be some confidence granted back to the legal system. As I just cannot imagine people in Spokane taking the law into their own hands, it would just be unthinkable here.
Hope all will be better in due time.

taken to task? I don't think so, spokane has waited 3 years for any type of justice for Otto Zehm and we would have seen none, if the feds hadnt stepped in. read my first post since 1991 police have killed 42 people. No this is not past news this is current news, they shot a young man in the back 6 times 2 months ago.

I think their job should be to protect people from violent situations to prevent situations from turning dangerous and violent. To catch killers, thieves, thugs, psycho's etc... but i think many of them are corrupt some just don't care and some feel powerful and take advantage of it ( like using their sirens to get ahead in traffic) and many also seem to not obey the speed limits. I guess some feel they can enforce the law but they don't have to follow the law themselves. On the other hand i have met some who are heroes too. I guess it just depend on the person themselves. But that is an unfortunate situation

dominiqueen,
Like you, I just have the same expectation of what the responsibilities are for the law enforcement polices but I just cannot and would not want to believe what the officer at the telephone had done here.
It is simply unthinkable and unbecoming for a established mechanized country like UK. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape the ordeal and came out alive. I just could not imagine if things had gone awry here and this officer was not reported.
Unfortunate?
I am just having mixed feelings about this whole episode here and I hope that some strict disciplinary action be mete out for this irresponsible officer.
