What is the aim of B.Tech

hello..
what is the aim of getting a b.tech degree. is it for getting an IT job or is it for getting technical knowledge.

my friend pointed that ultimately it is for getting a job.if the term JOB you means is an IT job then b.tech is aimless. because a student with +2 qualification can do the work that given to a graduate trainee in IT company. then why we need b.tech knowledge. we need only b.tech certificate.
