Hi stormragetz,
I never bet on any football match and never want to try it. Betting for me is a disease and once your involve in it, it is hard to let it go. Betting in football is same with betting with other type of gambling. It is hard to know the result. You will never know it until the final whistle. There is no confirm win for any team because any team can be good at any given day. To predict the result (goal scored) is totally nonsense.
But I play fantasy football to test my knowledge on management side. We can compete with people all around the world. It is how I test my knowledge here.

I never bet on soccer. I just love to watch and enjoy the games. I think it's okay to bet some money in soccer, but we don't need much knowledge in soccer to do that. even my neighbor who never watch soccer always bet on it every weekend. He just predict the upcoming match by analyze previous match

I won't say that people bet on football because they wanna prove how knowledgeable they are about the sport. I find that betting on a game makes the game more compelling, there is more reason for a team to win or lose. It enhances a match in a way.
