I couldn't give my pet away just for an apartment. I love it too much.

At one time I had 4 cats. I have no children, so they kind of became my "kids". I was so attached to them I could never even imagine giving one of them up. If I was looking for an apartment I would just keep looking till I found one that allowed them. If I dated a guy that didn't like cats, I would go on to the next guy. When my husband and I got a divorce, I got the cats, kind of like getting custody of the kids. When I had to have them put to sleep, I was very distraught, but it was best for them (they all got some form of cancer, and they were pretty old when I had to do it).I was upset for months, and I still miss them ( it's been 5 or 6 years).

Nope, but it never ceases to amaze me how many people WOULD just give up their animal because they were moving and couldn't take them.
I remember having to smuggle my cat into an apartment that wasn't pet friendly, and we lived there for 7 months without an issue. When we moved out, my resident manager looked at the cat carrier and scratching post I was carrying and said "You had a cat?".
I would never give her up just for a place to live. If the apartment/house was really nice, but not pet friendly, she would get snuck in. She's not disposable -- she's my buddy.

I would never give my cat away for an apartment. Exspecialy if I've had the cat for years. It becomes part of the family and without, things seam weird. It would seam like somethings missing. so nope - I wouldnt give her away.

I would not give my cat away because I was moving to a new apartment, that's for sure. I mean, really, if I'd had a cat for two years, then I assume I love the cat which I assume I love the cat because I got it in the first place. So, there is no way that I would get rid of my cat just because of apartment regulations when I could look for another apartment that allows them. It sounds like her boyfriend did the passive/agressive thing and decided to get rid of the cat by finding an apartment that doesn't allow them. Some guys do that, they just are sneaky about it and never say out loud that they hate your cat. I know my ex was jealous of my dog because he thought I loved her more than him, HA, he was right too!!

I also can't understand people who give their pets away so easily. Now if it was a choice between being homeless or going to a place that didn't take animals, I guess I'd have no choice but I'd see if a family member would care for them.
But if I was looking for an apartment and was not going to be homeless, then I would look at all the places that did accept pets. Pets become part of your family..especially after you've had them for so long... who knows how they will end up if you find them another home after having them for so long? I love my animals, they really add to my life, bring me joy.

I do not think i would get rid of any of my animals unless it was in the animals interest.I would rather stay living where i am or like you say try to find a place where i could take it with me.If i did have no choice then i would give my cat to a friend as that way i could at least see it as well as make sure it was doing ok.

Sometimes people do not have a choice, they are forced to move and have to go somewhere that pets are not allowed. This is very sad, but worked out well for me as I got my cat from someone in that situation, I have had her for almost a week and have already fallen in love with her!!!
Personally i would never choose to move somewhere which made me give up my pet, but as i say sometimes these situations are forced on people and it can be very hard.

I would not have given her away either.
They become part of the family, i could not do it, just to get a new place, i would look for a cat friendly place :(
Poor kitty.
