How Much is Too Much to spend on Children's Shoes

My 5 year old needed an extra pair of shoes for gym at school, so I went to Pay Less to see if I could find a cheap pair for him to keep at school for gym. Most of the kids shoes there were $24.99, I think that is really pricey for kids shoes when kids grow so quickly, I refused to pay that much, I didn't even want to pay $19.99 since these are shoes that will just be worn at school, but I might pay that for shoes he would wear all the time, but I still think that is pretty high. I found some on Clearance for $14.99 and go those.
So how much do you think is too much for a pair little of kids shoes?

You definitely don't want to pay a lot for shoes that you know your kid is going to outgrow soon. When I was a kid, I had to get new shoes every two weeks, no joke. But on the other hand, having proper support is important when kids' feet are developing. My younger years of cheap, low-quality shoes led to some foot development problems. I have very low, almost non-existent arches and over-pronation. This caused me to start having problems with my lower legs and knees early on. So you need to look for something inexpensive, but you should also keep in mind that the quality does matter- especially for the shoes your kid is going to be wearing all the time.

Very true, I make sure that I do get good supportive shoes, but the cheaper shoes are nearly as good as the expensive ones these days and in some cases better. The expensive shoes are sometimes not expensive because of quality but because of the name brand or celebrity name attached to them.

childrens shoes are expensive because the manufacterers know they only last 6 months or so so the screw ya over, i think your right pay less has good deals and if ya wait for certain times of the year they have the 2 for i specials. i would be sure though to make sure they fit correctly, you dont need problems down the road with a child with bad feet.make sure the width is correct then you might be able to buy a half size bigger and they'll last 4-5 months longer. clearance shoes are fine if they fit right all it means is that the big dept. stores had leftovers or try marshalls or tj max you can get $50 shoes for 20 bucks and their just as good

it depends really. for my little girl most of the time i get her shoes from payless. i don't ever pay more then $20 for a cute pair of shoes. sneakers are more pricey. sometimes i will get a great sale for $20 and there are other times when i have to pay full price and spend $50. don't get me started on my 14 year old son who wears a men's 9...

My daughter grows like half size bigger every six month. Sometimes I just try to buy them shoes from walmart, and it seem they also last for 6 month...PERFECT!! mostly in walmart only cause about 10 bucks. When they feet stop growing I will buy them the little bit more expensive than 10 bucks.

My children's feet grow so quickly that I always think it is too much to pay more than ten dollars for a pair of shoes for them, especially the ones that they will wear on a regular basis. It is inevitable with my children that regardless of whether I spend ten dollars on a pair of shoes for them or I pay fifty dollars for a pair of shoes for them, within a month they will have either torn the shoes up or outgrown them.
For me, I have found that the best way for me to go about shoes for the kids is to buy their shoes from Wal-Mart. They seem to hold up just as well and I don't end up investing nearly as much in them.

I agree that you should pay as little as possible for childrens shoes. However a child foot develops so quickly over the first few years so you need to ensure that the correct support is being provided for your childs foot. I am speaking from experience. When I was younger I wore every sort of a shoe. As a result by the age of 8 I had to wear special shoes because due to cheaper shoes I was wearing my ankles had not been correctly supported therefore I started to walk with my feet turned in. As a result my mum had to buy expensive shoes which had a bar inside the leather which support the inner side of my foot. i had to wear these for 2 years until my foot had straightened. Just ensure that when you are buying shoes for your son that you ensure that they will provide enough support.

Frankly,I don't know the current price of a pair shoe overseas, but in China, children's shoes or clothes are even more expensive than adult's.
There are many styles that you can choose, but the price may startle you.
I do not know why,Does the children have to follow the trend of fashion?

i usually go to Walmart and get kathryn's shoes.
i think the most I paid for a pair was 20.00 at shoe show and that was only because i couldn't find what I needed in her size. It's hard to find some things you need for cheep. But i usually pay around 10.00 a piece for her shoes. I think if you go over 20.00 a piece that you are spending too much. i was having to change her shoes about every 3-4 months. When she gets up in school next year i might go over 20.00 but as long as her sizes are still available I'll buy at walmart and k-mart over going to a department store.

Hello Ladym,
When come to buying shoes, it is important that you choose the right shoes for the kids. There are a few factors to consider when buying shoes which includes flexibility, stability, a good fit and air conditioned. Always walk around for awhile to see if the shoe feels good to you. So I would rather say the comfortable comes more important than the price.
But of course kids can out grow their shoes very fast. Some parents think of why spending too much on the kids shoes where they out grow it so fast. They purposely buy one size bigger shoes for the kids and hope that the kids can wear the shoes for longer time. I don't think this is the correct way in buying shoes for the kids.
For me, I go for the right shoes for the kids, and the price range is below $25, depends what type of the shoes.

Hi Ladym33,
I won't spend much on children's shoes as their feet will get bigger very fast.
The most expensive I will go for it is RM30-RM40/pair for children shoes. Not more than this amount.
I don't buy shoes for my son very often.Only when his shoes is spoilt or too tight, then I will get a new pair for him.

I think, as people have said, the important thing is that they fit correctly on little growing feet!
I do think they probably hike up the price knowing you will have to be buying again soon as they grow - they have a captive market as you HAVE to get shoes for your kids.
I have also done pretty well from Payless - if you hit them when they have a BOGOF sale or something it can be worth it.

yeah i do think that $24.99 is well to much for a pair of kids shoes especially if they are only going to be worn out in a matter of weeks u shouldn't pay that much now but when they are in there teens granted that isnt till a long time, then you need to fork out some cash for shoes

I can still spend up to 30 for a pair of children shoes. It's true that kids grow too fast, sometimes they can only wear clothes up to 3 - 4 times only. But shoes are different. They'll be wearing it often. Besides, I feel sorry for my younger siblings when they're just oggling the shoes but doesn't dare to ask me to buy it. Even for gym shoes, I may spend to 50. But that just that. I won't spend more than that.

I think anything over $10.00 is to much to spend on children's shoes. But I is very hard to fine any shoes for kids at that price. I think if you can fine some shoes for no more than $15 than you should buy them. Stores know kids grow out of shoes fast and you will be back in a couple of months to buy more so why not get as much as they can from you.
