I have heard of affliate marketing. I understand the basics of it. My questino is if you want to be an affliate, do you necessarily have to have your own website or blog to promote the products and services of another website? Give me any other tips or advice relevant to affliate marketing.

No, you don't have to have a website. I belong to one that was free to join and they provide referral links, banners, and even much of the training. They do have several ways to earn. Without a website, you'll have to promote in other ways, but there are plenty of ways to get your affiliate site promoted.
I use several exchanges to drive traffic and attract referrals (and almost each one is free to join and use...though I did pay for an upgrade at a couple because the benefits were too good to pass by).
What program have you joined?

My advice to you is never to join the chargable affliate maeleting program,As you may know as well that's a Pyramid shape earning game so if you can make sure to get enough downlines you can join but if you can't,I suggest you may give it up as soon as possible, actually that's not a healthy sales mode in my opinion but others just like it.
