Why did God drowned Pharaoh's soldiers in the Red Sea when they were just doing their job?

.."Because they were chasing the Israelites" is surely the answer! I was thinking of this long answer about the days being very primitive and ruthless times and a God worth His salt had to have stories, legends and occurrances that were dramatic and worth remembering, but then I read other answers I liked better..

Job of persecuting the people God? Even the devil is faithful in doing his job to persecute and destroy God's work, eventually he will face ultimate judgment.
If Pharaoh's soldiers were protecting God's people I will be surprised if they incurred God's punishment.
Have a nice day!

It's pretty obvious that the Pharaoh's soldiers were about to kill Israelites and God protected them by dividing the Red Sea. Their main job was to persecute the people of God. When you follow evil commands that means you are in a way doing evil, so even if the soldiers were just following orders they were still cooperating with evil actions , anybody who is cooperating evils will be punished accordingly.
