i usually just go out to eat with hubby but this year i decided to treat myself to the hair salon and get my hair dyed etc.. i know a lot of people it seems they do a certain thing every year but i dont really do it but turning 28 made me feel i needed a new look to start it with lol.. i guess one example would be on your 21st birthday getting your first legal drink etc.. what have you done in the past for yourself? do you do it every year or has it changed with your age?

Hmm... I usually just want to laze around all day at home. A good beverage, a few good movies and maybe a nice meal is all I ask for. All I wanna do is couch out in the living room and do a movie marathon!

hi there, i always try to think of something special to do, buy or go to, to make my day extra special and unique. i go to church, light a candle and thank god for another year added in my life...not because i need it but because someone else needs me as i continue this life's journey, i buy a pair of shoes or a blouse and cook a special dish that me and my family can have for dinner and treat in the office for my co-workers. this year i celebrated my birthday in an out-of-town official trip. i maybe working during my birthday...mylot made it unique for me. i made a discussion about my birthday and solicited birthday greetings from mylot members... great right? happy birthday friend!

In my childhood, I distributed chocolates to everyone in the school on the day of my birthday. When I entered college, I gave party to my close friends in a restaurant. When I was in office, made sweets myself or if no time, bought from outside, and gave to close people who matter to me. Now in my senior citizen days, I share small gifts with my children and servant maid and make payasam (a sweet liquid dish)and give them and also to my close neighbours. But one thing is common from childhood till now. Stand before God's photo, making thanks giving for keeping me hale and healthy without depending on others. I hope this will continue till last.

thats interesting.. its like your doing the opposite of what is expected but that is cool though! not many people care about others on their day or even on regular days!

Hey, moon! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! I always make my own cake on my birthday, if I want cake. Nothing much happens on my birthday, other than my kids coming to see me and bringing me cards and a gift. At my age, I would rather seem birthdays come and go without a lot of 'to-do'. My kids always give me something very special. This year, they gave me a picture of both of them, doing a "Bill and Ted" imitation, you know, the "Be excellent to each other" pose. It was in a lovely frame with leaves imprinted on it (I'm such a nature freak) and "Family" on it. I LOVE IT! It's in my living room in a place of honor. My husband? He sometimes gives me flowers but usually it's nothing. Because of his attitude towards my birthday, I retaliate and don't get him anything, either. His birthday is before mine and I always made a big deal of his birthday but slowed down and finally stopped after he never did the same for me. He's such a party pooper! But, you have yourself the most excellent adventure today, okay? I hope your birthday is a grand one.

I know what you mean there, moon. I have a long-time friend who never calls me on my birthday but always calls me on hers. She just wants me to wish her a happy birthday. She's a bit self-absorbed... okay, she's a LOT self-absorbed. Sometimes I just don't answer the phone when she calls and chalk it up to not having the phone with me, which usually is the case. I send her birthday greetings via email. That's still more than I get on my birthday.

i had a good relaxing bday so im happy!! yeah i stopped sending out cards because for every 10 i sent i got maybe 1 back nad so i was like heck if they dont have time for me i dont for them! maybe they will get an email or a text or comment on their profile but thats about it.. i hate picking out cards anyways because i want to get the RIGHT one so me giving cards out is stressful enough and then to not even get a thanks or anything back is just annoying

My birthdays have always been normal, nothing special. just a few wishes and stuff. but a few years ago i decided, if it is not that special than i must make it special for myself. I'd buy myself something really expensive, something i really like. Last birthday i bought myself a really nice handbag. love it.

I like to go out to eat on my birthday. It's not something that I get to do often because it costs so much so, if at all possible, I try to go out on my birthday to one of my favorite places. One year I took off to visit an out of town friend for my birthday. That was great, sure did tick off my family though, which didn't bother me all that much. If I had the money, I would go to the beach for my birthday every year. That's the place I like the best.

I wish I did get to do extra special things on my b-day. Alas it'll be some time before we have the money to do that. Right now it's just another day for me. We do our best to make the kids have a good b-day, even if it's just with a cake & a gift or two.

Yesterday was my husband's birthday. We don't normally do much, can hardly afford to with 5 kids. The only thing we make sure of every year for his birthday is that I bake him a double layer lemon cake with lemon frosting. I've been doing it since the first year we were together, and I've never missed a year!! When he was a kid his mom didn't bake cakes, she used the boxed cake mix, but put it in a bundt pan, then heated the frosting and drizzled it on. Never once did hubby have a real cake! So that's why it's so important to him to have his double layer cake! My birthday is in May, and it always falls the same week as Mother's Day, sometimes ON Mother's Day. So you'd think double celebration, right? Nope! Unfortunatly my oldest son was born the day after my birthday. Due to our finances we cannot afford to celebrate more than 1 holiday at a time, so needless to say my son's birthday is first and foremost, and my birthday and my mother's day go uncelebrated. What makes matters worse is that my wedding anniversary is just the week before! Normally I may get 1 gift that is meant to cover all 3 holidays. I'm used to it, so I'm not bothered too much. But I do get depressed if I don't get very many birthday wishes from my friends and family! That got worse once my foster mom passed.

yeah i was kind of depressed yesterday or tuesday i should say because i hadnt gotten many happy bday wishes and i know a lot of close friends knew it was my bday but today i got a lot of posts and texts so i felt better.. i have always been one to remember everyones bday and give cards but the last two years i have been bad about it because i came to realized for every 10 i give i would get 1 back and it was crazy!! so i figured if they didnt want to take the time for me then i shouldnt stress over them (sounds silly but i hate picking out cards!!) i would end up with a text or comment or email etc.. my mom, brother and me are all in sept and then my parents ani so sept is a stressful month money wise

Hey, No I don't really do any special things on my birthday, I do nothing for myself on my birthday. Every birthday that I have ever had, as been really quite boring, I must admit, hopefully in the future they won't be this bad. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I reserve this day exclusively for my immediate family. It is a holiday for all of us at home. In my family we celebrate birthdays this way. All the members will be together. It is a fun filled day for all of us. It is a big family day for us.

I actually kinda think of that right now. I usually celebrate my birthday with my family. We just eat and do some malling. I never got to do something special on my birthday. Maybe this upcoming birthday of mine, i'll buy myself an ipod because I really love listening to music. I download all songs of David Cook coz' he's really my favorite.

The special thing that I do for myself during my birthday is to go to mass or to pray. I always thank God for giving me the past year and for another year to come. And of course, I treat myself with one item I really want to have and to celebrate with my family and friends.

During my younger days,i always treat myself with my friends. We love to play bowling,so,everytime my bday comes,we spend half of the day at the bowling lanes. Then, eat to our favorite hang-out. But,now,it has to changed a lot. I started the day by greeting myself a Happy Birthday, and i cook some foods for us/me/my kids and family. A simple celebration can do...and of course,to thank GOD for another new year in my life.

Hi moonlitmagikchild, I prefer to have a simple celebration with my husband and my son during my birthday. Normally we will either out for dinner or have dinner at home with cake cutting session. This year, I celebrated my birthday at home, I even cooked some simple and nice dishes and my husband bought KFC and tiramisu cake. I do not need to have a big party for my birthday,it is just wasting my money. A simple dinner gathering with my family is my birthday wish for every year.

i usually go to trust, simply distribute the meals to old age people. i also stay there for a day and interact with them, and had a discussion with their life. it is very enjoyable.

I don't really have anything I do as a tradition persay, unless you count trying to surround myself with as large of a group of friends and family as I possibly can so I can have fun and see them all since I don't get out much...
