Once I had vitamin tablets after expiry date. My Mom got the tablets for me and was keep on reminding me about having those tablets, but I didn't listen to her. After many days, I saw the tablets and I had it on a sudden without checking the expiry. As a result, I got swelling on my lips and it started itching. After that incident, I always check the expirty date before having any medicine. Have you ever had something after expiry date? Do you check the expirty date always before having something?

once, i bought medicines from a smaller pharmacy because prices there were lower. when i got home, i came to realize that some of the capsules that i bought were already beyond expiry dates. i had no time to return them immediately as it was already late at night. the following morning, i had it returned and exchanged with "good" medicines. from them on, even if i hadn't taken any of the expired medicines, i was (and still am) very cautious to check the expiry date before i leave the pharmacy. checking it while still at the pharmacy saves u effort, time and money.

I've never had any medicine before expiry.I always check the expiry date before buying medicine. There was an antiseptic power which was just passed expiry. When a next door elderly neighbor fell and injured himself we called a doctor who after cleaning him asked if there was some ointment to apply. The only medicine i had was an antiseptic powder which i showed him and he said it was all right since it was hardly 20 days after expiry.

Thanks for sharing the incident with mylotters. It is nice to hear that you always check the expiry date. I also heard that it is ok to have the medicine if it is only a few days after expiry. But, I don't know if it ok after 20 days. To me, twenty days look like a long time. It is better not to take the risk of having them after expirty. Thanks for the response.

I've not had any problems taking expired anything. Though you have to really take a look at what it is if it is worth keeping anymore or it is time to dispose of. It sounds more like you had an allergic reaction to it or something else you ate.

After the expiry date, the medicines usually lose their efficacy and as a result there is no use in taking such medicines. Moreover, some medicines even turn into toxins like tetracycline; so taking such medicines is equivalent to consume poisons. So it is our earnest duty to always check the expiry date before using any kind of medicine.

Hi daliaj That was too bad, because expired medicines are almost poison like, due to this they put a date of manufacture and date of expiry.. my city has shops with home-delivery facilities for potential buyers, they give discount of say 5 to 10%, as me and hubby both have health issue, we buy medicines regularly, we place order over phone medicine shop, the stuff is deliverd at home, but i check the expiry date of medicices, always lol Some times things with expiry date gone comes in.. Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. .

Ya, every time I take medicines I do check the expiry date on it. It has become more of a habit to do that. Well and more importantly I have the habit of reading out the date loud. So I remain confirmed that the medicine that I take is safe and has its life within the expiry date. Well there are at time we take medications that are way beyond the expiry date. It is indeed wrong and we must go and see a doctor for that.

hi daliaj, first od all lets be very clear what is meaning of expiry date. Expiry date is a date after which a medicine is not hundred percent effective and start loosing its effect. how much effect is lost depends upon how old was expiry date. So if any medicine expires on say oct 30, it wont become useless on nov 10 or wont become poision. So lets say in 3 months ( if it has long shelf life) it would be at 90% of its effect as it was when it was with in exoiry date. So yes i do take medicines which have expired recently though i wont buy expired medicine because if i pay i pay for not expired ones and the sweeling on ur lip may be because of that you might have developed allergy to the medicine and not because it is expired.

I always check the expiry date of the medicine rightaway when in buy it from the medical shop. Also check it before having it if it available at home. I make it a point to throw away expired date medicines from my medicinal cabinet regularly. So there are very little chances of having medicines with expired dates.

Yes, I do check expiry date before buying anything we consume. Actually this is a good practice and we should check expiry dates for all eatables too. Because not only medicines all drinks, eatables, personal care products which we use for external and internal use. Hope you agree with my opinion and let me know if you need more info on the same. Have a nice day.

Before taking medicines I always check the expiry date because it is no use taking expired medicines because it is not effective anymore. One it reaches to its shelf-life, it must be forbidden to take.

Of course, I have everything after checking the expiry date. Whenever I am sick or something, my mom or dad only gives me medicines, so they only check the expiry date before giving it to me but if the medicine is not there at home, and they buy it, so that time they don't check the expiry date as the shopkeeper only checks it. But when I am buying some snacks or any food item, I check the expiry date and if my mom and dad or anyone is going to the market, they check and bring the food items. So, till now, I never had something that has been expired. Have a great day!

By god's grace, I never had medicine after expriry date. I always check the expiry date twice before I take the medicine. My father trained me to check the expiry date before i would take any medicine since my childhood. So I got used to it as a habit to check the expirydate. Now I am teaching same to my kid. By god's grace she learnt that habit very quickly and always ask me to check the product expiry date before taking medicine as she is small.

hi daliaj, is an SOP for me to always check on the expiry dates of medicines. not only meds even food. i don't want to put myself and the family at risk of food poison or taking an expired medicine. although they're saying that even if a medicine is already expired there is an additional month that such is still safe but i don't want to take the risk.

Hi, daliaj! Yeah, I always check the expiry date of any medicine before buying or taking them because like you I had taken in an expired medicine and it caused me to vomit, got hospitalized for poisoning. I get very careful in buying or when someone give me medicines as first checking the expiry date.

Yes. As part of my job, and also at home, I always make sure that it is safe to take. Even buying medicines, I make it sure that it is not expired.
