knowing a chord or two. i am determined to learn to play guitar like the rock n' rollers kind, but i never seem to get playing and strumming the guitar quite right. i tried watching people on their tricks with the strings but i can't mimic what their doing. i have a hard time researching on a good site for song chords to play with.

try finding a book on playing the guitar, follow the book, i mean be a good student lol, after that shift to whatever you want but slowly, i know you are keen to play your favorite songs and all but all that takes times and effort but trust me the day when you look back on all you've done to arrive at that level you wont regret it.

I started playing guitar when I hit 47 years old. Now I am 56 and still play about 2 hours a day, well practice playing. :)
I found my playing really improved when I started listening to the song as I play. For a long time I didn't because I couldn't get the strumming right but if you just keep at it you will pick it up.
Another thing that has really helped me is Youtube. It's the best place to find songs I like and people that have figured out how to play them. It saves me days of playing around on my own.

Hi nejnej
I understand you want to play the guitar and are finding minor difficulty now, has been the same case with me while i was learning the guitar myself, i am basically more of a drummer but i also wanted to learn how to play the rhythm guitar and so i had to learn and also playing the rhythm guitar is a nice time pass coz i always can't be playing the drums... well it is best if you have a friend around who know how to play a guitar or have a personal tutor, that way you could learn fast honestly. . . i too had the initial problem of strumming the strings down upwards, you might find initially you can't also do that hey but don't worry practice and practice and that thing will happen, that is one of the initial glitches one has to overcome with practice to do practice strumming the string both upwards and downwards, start with strumming downwards and then while coming up do it upwards, it will be difficult initially, it might get caught in the middle and things like that but just keep on going and it will be fine and after that you will have another milestone to cross - shifting of chords, now this has to take time, it takes time for everyone, i took me a long time to shift chords properly and smoothly and have still got to learn to do it better coz there are some really weird chords i want to play. . . . so there you go i gave the two major glitches that everyone has to initially face the proper strumming upwards and then the shifting of chords . . . i can only tell you and tell you to practice the rest is on you to do it, do it with patience and you are sure to rock in no time . . . all the best and have fun doing it
have a nice time learning guitar dude!

Hello, I know what you feel... I felt that too. But don't give up as long as you are determined to learn you can achieve what you want. Youtube and guitartutee had been helpful for me to learn to play different songs. You can search om videos for beginners. Good luck to you :)
