For those who started wondering about the relation between the two, let me clear the air..it is all about our ruling government's decision to spend a whopping 345 crore on a statue at a place where the largest slum in the world lies... how ironical and ridiculous!!! statue of an important figure to the party, not as important as our father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi or people like Nehru... how can they people in power even think of ways to spend taxpayers money like that...A celebrity has started a signature campaign against this...in another state, the cheif minister is on a statue building spree of her own and of elephants!! I would like to hear your say about this?

Hi Malpoa, I'd be curious to know how they justify this one to the taxpayers, or do they just not bother. Did they tender the statue out to ones who gave the largest bribes? It really is a disgusting mockery isn't it, do they think the people living in the slum will feel better about their lives if they get the chance to come and share in the glory of this statue, or will they be too busy just surviving to have time. I presume you speak of Calcutta. It would probably be a good idea for the people to remind the government of what happens to statues of politicians when they spend too much on honouring themselves or their elephants. Sadam to name just one who was famous for the dowmfall of his statue.

As I have told before, people here in west bengal react violently to matters like this. The statue and the slum I mentioned are the latest news from mumbai (maharashtra). It is where the bollywood is and mumbai is one of the four metros of India. Kalav stays there.. Politicians do not bother to explain to taxpayers, they go about doing things as it is their ancestoral property. There is a limit for everything and people start responding if that limit is crossed. Which just happened in this case...they have numerous ways to utilise that money in a far better way...People do good work with the money for publicity!!! Politicians are in the front page for it...Atleast they can think of supplying good drinking water to the slum if making homes for such a large number of people are not possible...

It's truly ridiculous Malpoa, we all know that politicians are corrupt and out for themselves but surely they would realise that money spent on a statue would not bring honour to them whilst supplying the basic need of water might. I will make an assumption here that the slum dwellers who live without water don't actually vote.

I'm really sorry you didn't get responses here Malpoa, seems that serious subjects just don't attract the same attention as favourite ice cream flavours.
