What do you use to minimize scarring?

My son missed a line drive to the outfield and got hit in the face with a baseball.
He was wearing sunglasses at the time. His face was cut by the corner of the glasses. He has a little sideways "V" on his face now.
We didn't take him to the hospital. It wasn't THAT deep and he really didn't want to go. It was a judgement call that I had to make.
It probably would have best to put a butterfly bandage on it immediately, but we didn't.
Right now I am using a product called "Neosporin". It's something that I have always used to put on cuts ever since I was a child.
The commercials claim that it's use will minimize scarring. Do you believe that to be true?
Do you know of any other products or home remedies that are known to minimize scarring?
The only other things that I can think of are Vitamin E and Aloe.
I'm not sure what works best...

I use Bio-oil and I've found it very effective, but I think your best bet is to go to a pharmacy and ask them their advice about products. I've just been on vacation to the States and I've found the pharmacists in CVS very knowledgeable and helpful.

A home remedy that you can try that doesn't cost you a cent more and is safe is to save banana peel and fastening that to the scar when going to sleep. Pawpaw peel is another option. It won't work overnight, so I recommend you do that whenever you buy them, or else you wil spend a lot on it. You can always make a deal with other fanily members or friends that are eating it on a daily basis and would normally just throw the peels away.

Something that works very well with fresh wounds from burning is potatoe peels. If you dip it very briefly in boiling water to sterilize it, then you could apply that to to the burned area. It should leave no scars afterwards. This is for fresh wounds, but it won't hurt your pocket or health when trying it on older wounds. Apply that when you go to sleep. A doctor in India has had huge success with it, using it aa a bandage, instead of all the other types of dressings.

I hope your son's feeling better! I'm sure he's healed by now, but tea tree oil works wonders! Even this late in the game it will help.

I swear by the vitamin E. As a child I got burned very badly...caught on fire to be exact. My right leg was scarred from the ankle up above my knee. I was in my teens when someone told me about vitamin E. I was so selfconcious of this scar that I would not wear shorts and if I wore skirts...wore them with dark tights. I got the capsules and each night I faithfully broke open the capsules and spread the oil on the scar. Slowly but surely the scar faded. I grew up and had a child and my scar was not my priority any longer so I stopped spending my money on that adventure. Still...I have to tell you that my scar did shrink. It is about half the size of what it was. I think if I had been diligent and continued, it may have disapeared altogether. also bear in mind that when I started the Vitamin E treatment that my scar was probably about 10 years old at least! I would imagine a fresh wound would respond better to it.

hi mismilady neosporin will keep it healing without infection'
but I don't think it does anything for scars, but mederma is
made for fading and removing scars so use the two together'
and you should soon see results.Vitamin E and Aloe are good
for wounds but do nothing for scars.

I just use the Neosporin. I used to use Vitamin E, and mink oil. This is what I was told to use when I was pregnant and got those lovely stretch marks. Now i just use the Neosporin and it works as good if not better. And the mink oil was expensive. I don't remember them having Neosporin when I was pregnant. Oh oh. There I go dating myself again. The dinosaurs were always more than happy to run down to the corner and get me some. No fooling.

Well, it is about health so I really suggest you to go to nearest GP (general practisioner) if you have one, or just simply visit nearest hospital to find out furthermore. YOU HAVE to be very careful when using any kind of medicine, regardless what the brand is, whether it is popular, traditional, well-known or whatever. And it's on the face. I would be very careful with my face. =) I don't want something left on my face.

Comfrey ointment, if you can get it, is very good at minimising scarring. It appears to have remarkable effect on repairing organic damage, and used as a poultice on breaks was once known as boneknit. Of course in later years your son could brag about his duelling scar, that's a plus lol.

Hi Miamilady,
I am using MEDERMA product for my scars. I have some scars on my leg due to mosquitoes bites and after applying for few weeks, I can see the result.
My scar is getting lighter and I believe if I continue using this cream, at last my scars will go fade. Hope so !!
You can simply get this Mederma scar cream at the pharmacy.
I do hear that AloeVera gel will helps too. But I never try it out myself.
Hope your son's face (the scar) will get fade soon.
