Tsunami is here again!

I listened and watched attentively to today's evening news over the local channel where they reported that certain places have been hit by this giant killer tidal waves that has send hundreds of people to their watery graves. My country is among the watch list of a likelihood target for tsunami to happen. Tsunami has not stopped wiping human race from the face of this world. Another Asian country, Philippines has been hit by floods causing a lot of misery to their citizens. An hour ago strong winds have been spinning madly that brought a heavy downpour causing major landslides in some places here. I fear with this continuous strong wind followed by rains would cause flooding in many places here. The weather has not been kind to us these few days and the alert of a tsunami in my country is quite frightening. How is the weather in your place? Is your place prone to flooding or earthquakes?

Hi zandi. After all that happened in the Philippines due to
the killer storm I believe that only God has control in
everything. Philippines is expecting another typhoon this
week. The news of tsunami in Samoa which also killed hundreds
was a shocking follow-up of all the tragedies happening around
the world.
Zandi, I lived in front of the beach and couple of months ago
there was a tsunami alert which made me, my two young kids
and hubby evacuate to my in-laws house five minutes after
a friend rang us to tell us about the warning. I was so
scared but managed not to panic because I needed to move
really quick with two young kids I needed to carry in my car
late at night while they were sleeping and a husband that has
disability. Luckily, the tsunamis that were detected by
the authorities were 'tiny' tsunamis that were harmless. We
are very lucky.
But with the tsunami that had just happened in Samoa, the
authorities here are being very watchful in detecting any
threat of tsunami.
All we can do during these times is to pray and believe that
God will save us and will have mercy on us.

Another island in my country (just your neighborhood) was hit by earthquake at 7.6 scale. Thanks God it didn't end up with tsunami. This is just after less than 1 month ago another earthquake hit southern Java.
My country lies on the point that 4 of major earth plates meet and pushing each other. With 2 biggest ocean also surround it, tsunami often becomes a threat when earthquake occurs. Hopefully less disaster happens, and we're all human have just to be ready for our lives.

I have been seeing all those horrible pictures on the news of the horrible things that are happening in the phillipines & other places. It is a sad, sad thing. I sure hope it doesn't happen where u live, please be safe & take all the precautions u can. I live where there is no chance of flooding but they do predict that one day we will have a bad eartquake. I sure hope they are wrong.

I just am sorry that people are suffering through this & hope things get better soon. Sometimes are goverments lag behind when they don't need to. Ours did that in new orleans when they had the big flood, quite a shame when they do that.

Touchwood, but so far the place where I live has not been in the list of calamities prone area. But I would not be too confident that it will be free of natural disasters in future as anything can happen anytime anywhere. Just pray that these natural disasters won't cause more human lives to perish everything it hits an area.

That is correct, pal! Those countries located along the ring of fire in pacific ocean will have to face more severe under ocean seismic generated tsunami this season, it is better for them to prepare for the worst that had yet to come in the month ahead. Even the ice sheet in earth poles are rapidly disappeared due to some drastic climate changes are taking place in our world today, the earth can not take the abuse from men on mother nature forever without unleash its fury any more.

I think not only Asian, countries will affected in this result of climate change. Everywhere and every corner of the world, my friend. I'm sad to say that this is all the result of the fulfillment of prophecy in the bible that will happen to this last days...
Our area is not prone of floods but as the disaster will not under estimated. Floods was done in the streets...Hope we can cope up the everything and stand again a new better life...Have a nice day!

I was really sad when hearing about these news but we can't really compare it to the scale of the tsunami of five years ago. I just hope that the damages are quickly fixed and that everyone gets their life running as naturally as before around there.

Hiya zandi. I just started a discussion because I've felt a tiny and slight tremor. It was a few seconds, but made me wonder for a bit because I rarely experience this kind of thing. I've read about the floods in Philippines and I really hope things will turn out alright. Evacuating would be the solution coming to my mind, but if most places are flooded, then that is really a cause of concern. If Tsumani is really here once more (and hopefully not), I don't know how it's going to be like. Let's pray for the best and hope the winds behave.

Hello zandi,
I live in the Philippines. And you are right. There was a typhoon that caused a lot of flooding in our country. It was really a disaster. Many lives and property was lots. The Philippines, is a typhoon prone country, but what happened in last Sept 26 was really terrible.
But I know we can surpass this trial in our lives and country.
Do take care

We are neighbors. I live in Sabah which is not very far from the Philippines. What ever typhoon blowing in your country we too get affected by the tail of these typhoons. Luckily we are not badly hit this time. For your info, our state is popularly known as the 'land below the wind' that might explain why we are not badly affected.

We don’t have a great deal of earth quakes in Perth Western Australia; the last quake I recall would have been almost twenty years ago. We lived in Italy for the first ten years of my life and over there earth quakes were quite regular and we used to run down downstairs from out fifth floor apartment whenever one hit. Fortunately I did not experience any which caused serious damage.
I am really sorry for the poor souls who have lost their lives during these natural disasters...

It is just unfortunate that lives are lost during these calamities. The place I live is quite calm and have not experienced any earthquakes and am thankful for that. But sorry for those who have to endure hardships in the lands that are prone to earthquakes.

This is the nature of the world. Some will suffer in the hands of these calamities but others seems to have no worries as their land is not in the lists of being hit by these natural disasters. All we ask is for people to pray that God protect those who are in this disastrous areas.

I live in Scotland and although the weather if often cold, rainy and windy we are lucky not to experience tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes or any severe natural disasters. I lived in Thailand for a while and I am very aware of how tragic and disastrous nature can be - it is only a few years since Thailand and other S E Asian countries suffered a giant tsunami

I have been hearing all about this on the bbc world service. Kinda scary that it's happening again, even if it's happening on some place totally different. It's scary what nature is capable of doing.

I live in Oregon USA and according to my son (the weatherman, Oregon coast saw higher waves from the earthquake. not sure if it was a Tsunami, but he said people on the coast should stay way from the water. I live inland more so i really dont have to worry about it. I am sorry to hear that your country has had so much bad luck with them. I wish you and well and do what you can to stay safe.

Hmm... Malaysia should be pretty sheltered from Tsunami, no?
I am not sure. But the weather where I live is pretty much the same.
A little more rain than usual compared to last year in the same period. A welcome change as the weather has been unusually hot of late. And the rains are a welcome rebate from the heat.
Hmm... are there anything measure being taken by your town to handle the aftermath of a Tsunami?
Is anything being done to reduce the effects of a Tsunami attack? (Is attack the right word to use? )

Yes, it is really very pathetic people suffering from the disastrous tsunamis. I saw the news on the TV and also on the websites. Another sad news today is the strong earth quake in Sumatra island, Indonesia. Th City of Padeng was strongly hit, causing a lot of damage in the City. That's very pathetic too. The earth quake wave went as far as Malaysia, it says.
