no i don't think there's a difference between a spirit and a soul, it's one and the same thing. but i think the main difference that can be think of is that soul lives in us and spirit lives outside our body. that is the main difference between spirit and a soul.

well they both can mean the same thing, however spirt can also refur to free will and aspects on personality, you can say a horse is "spirted" meaning that horse is lively, soul(when spelt soul)only really means one thing, however spirt has more than one mening
Hope that makes sence.

From the reading I have done on these two. They can be quite confusing to distinguish, which one is which. But I personaly think there is a difference.
A spirit comes after a person has passed,it may be whats left of the soul. We definitely, have a soul while still living. They may mesh together in the spirit world from what type of person you are or where or not .

Yeah, it's very confusing to discern its exact differences and yeah I also believe that they're not the same. Our soul is our life and our spirit is the one who separate us and connect with God and move on the other world. That's what I've understand though I don't really know if I'm right.
Anyway thank you for sharing with us Capsicum on this quite confusing discussion.
Enjoy your day!

This is still quite a debate in the different spiritual cultures and philosophic currents. To some, spirit and soul is the same thing. To some others, they are different things. I personally agree with a 'middle' view which says that spirit ( also called by some as God) is the totality of souls existing in Creation. It's not a solid ground because words are just indicators to things and not the 'thing' itself ( when I say beautiful, for example, what your mind is telling you about what beautiful means is not exactly what my mind is telling me; it depends on the individual programing we each received during life)

i am just seeing this topic, but i just joined mylot a week now and i saw this topic from someone who gave an answer to my topic of the difference between spiritual teachings and religious teachings, first let me introduce myself i am an eckist from the eckankar teachings a second initiate of the spiritual circle, now the difference between spirit and soul is that spirit is a body that soul uses when it is in the lower worlds gathering information for the purpose of the higher levels of living it is accustomed to soul is from the higher worlds of god spirit is from the lower where soul can go spirit cannot follow also this physical body soul is the energy source within the bodies,of the main body soul,u have 3spirits and one soul and one physical body for each life you are given to live while in the lower universes, whenever soul steps out of the body at what ever time the body is at rest it moves into another universe known as the astral worlds now while u r in the astral worlds u have a astral spirit, just like when u r in the physical worlds u have a physical body the astral body is a little bit lighter than the physical body and the astral is the first spirit body, the next spirit body is known as the causal body for the causal world, and the 3rd spiritual body is known as the mind spirit for the mental world so u see 3 spirit for the 3different universes that soul travels to while gathering information about the lower worlds the other worlds above that only soul can go there cause those worlds r now been considered as the higher worlds and only soul goes on without those bodies,so thats the difference between spirit and soul,to know more about this kind of teachings visit the eckankar website, may the blessings be

Well, I had a philosophy teacher that told me that according to Okham' Razor, spirit and woul should be the same thing: the metaphysical (not physical, not maaterial) part of the human being... in old times philosophers tend to discuss a lot about its differnces, but most of their arguments were not very deep or logical, so Okham said that when there are two explanations for the same idea, the shorten and simpler one would be the more probably true: it is more probable that the soul and the spirit are the same since findiing their difference is not an exact science, we can't prouve their differences... it is easier to understand this this way.
