How do you know when your baby starts teething?

My son's two months old now, and I know it's a bit young for a baby to start teething, but he's drooling a lot more and he cries for no reason now. We thought it might be bad gas, but it's been going on for about a week around the same time-in the afternoon and evening. I noticed that when he chews on something firm, he tends to quiet up. How do I know if he's teething or something else?

As told above if the child is chewing on his fists or if you put a finger would have tendency to bite then you give him teething rings and he keeps biting at them. This will stop his crying. We have also noticed that some chhildren would have loose motions for no apparent reason when beginning to teeth.

Low to moderate fevers, drooling like crazy, and grabbing at the mouth would be definate signs. My daughter wasn't all that fussy, but she did have the fevers. Of course, she was nursing, so I could usually tell when she was cutting a new tooth by the amount of chewing she did on me! If you think your baby is teething, you can help ease the discomfort by chilling a teething ring and giving it to him. Just keep a check in his mouth and you will probably be able to see white showing up under the gum line if the tooth hasn't already broke through.

Usually the best way to tell is when your child chews on his fists like crazy. A lot of babies drool a lot when they are teeth as well as some run a low fever. My kids were great when they were teething. They didnt scream and cry for days. It was literally as the tooth was pushing through the surface that they cried. My daughters came through and were like full size seemingly overnight but my sons stayed tiny for along time before they came all the way through. Some kids you can see the tooth peeking through the skin then the swelling goes down and the tooth isnt peeking out anymore. I guess for every child its different. Do what you can to make your baby as comfortable as possible when they are teething.
