Why can't the girl and her mother live in the same space and the father?

Tomorrow my friends and I watch the movie silence hill. It is a horror film. But I'm puzzled about the ending. The girl and her mother drove out the silence hill and got home at last.However they live in a different space from the father live in.The two spaces is parallel,which can never intersect with each other. Did the woman and the girl had died actually? Or the girl's body had been controlled by the dark? By the way,it was my first time to see such a fritening film!

But basically reason why they cant be together in a nutshell is because Rose made up her mind that she was going to help "evil Alessa", to get rid of Crisabella´s gang but, the part were it gets confusing is when they go back to the house. They are still in the same dimension within Silent Hill because after or during "evil Alessa" getting rid of the church people, she merged with Sharon, therefore, they had to stay within the dimension and Rose taking Alessa´s mother´s place.
In the video games also explains a lot more.. even though its a bit more confusing so I suggest you check out Silent Hill 1 the video game.

Improbity? dont know what that means sorry... but well, if you ever get to play the games, Silent Hill is a place in time that is controled by "Samael" wich is a demon. He kind of lewers people to go there and traps them in his reality.
According to the fictional town history of it, there has always been weird things happening there, it began with indian tribes that stayed there but the land was not good and they left, later with the settlers and all of that, and in the present time they made Silent Hill a tourist type of town, but it was only a decoy to make people go so that the fanatics that were living within the town wich was this type of cult that wanted to resurrect the one God, and with that you understand its Samael.
I hope they make a good sequel of this movie. Normally in the sequels they kinda ruin it. But knowing Silent Hill as I do, it probably wont make much sense!
