How often do you cook ? : The jerk or smoked meat day ?

Here on the island we have a custom to cook everyday except on friday which is considered more of a "fast food" or "eat out day ".On those days you find that many people are to be found at fast food joint ordering their favourite delicacies or at local "open air barbeque joints" ordering smoked or jerked meats. These are seasonal vendors who just crop up at a busy intersection to catch those who subscribe to the usual tradition of being out of teh kitchne on a friday.Usually too they are found at the same location but this location may change if they have located a more lucrative place and their type of business being that it is mobile facilitates that. By the way these barbeque joints are nothing more than oil drums which they have cut and added a gauze to hold the meats (which is usually chicken or pork and sometimes fish). The meats are seasoned placed on the gauze and below this a fiery bed of coals rests. The maeats are then served with a slice of bread adn there you have it fridays cusine. So teh question now is do youcook everyday and if so which days dont you cook and what are teh alternatives on this(or these days)?

Hello robbyb missed you ,glad to hear from you again.Living in the middle of nowhere I cook everynight ,but on friday night it is normally fish and chips easy.We have no fast food places around here so that is the price of living somewhere like this, but it is a price worth paying. My son gets chips at school on a friday as he is very careful what he eats,he normally has a jacket potatoe with his fish.

wow Suzzy my dear so happy to hear from you too and I am so happy to see you aer still here Well it may be a blessing that you dont live near any fast food joints as you may tend to over eat and that kind of food is not healthy .Fish and chips sound great too and pretty healthy too. Thanks for your response and I missed you

I cook nearly daily these days, not really sure why but I think I'm also eating more and getting hungrier these days. Before I'd just let my folks do their job but now I'm consuming more...must be because of the age.

I cook everyday for dinner because all my kids will be coming from school and since i don't look at lunch or just heat some food or buy outside. dinner is very important for my kids. I don't cook on sundays because we rest and wake up very late. We have so many cooked food vendors in our vicinity and for our maids, i see to it that we are more relax on a sunday./

I cook everyday most of the time it is either lunch or dinner. We go out sometimes on Saturday for dinner but I still have to cook lunch which maybe leftover from Friday dinner.

What you're describing in this discussion sounds so yummy. I like the idea of something cooked in a drum. I never cook anymore. We eat out every night. Once in awhile we go to our daughter's homes to eat. Found it's easier and just as cheap to eat out since my husband and I don't like the same foods other than hamburger.

I tend to cook every day. Except for sundays. As sundays are a religious day meant for rest and worship. Itry to cook big enough meals through out the week that will last on sunday. If not,we go out to eat. When you say island, which islands are you refering to? Sorry, I don't know. I know there are members from all over the world and sometimes it is hard to keep up.

with a small baby in the house and during the time I was pregnant there are many times I could not cook so what we did was eat cold meats (ham or salami) with spreads and cheese or other sendwich or fry an egg or sausage something quick and simple. Also I steam or bake vegetables and it takes 5 min to do them and then you have a nice and easy and healhy meal. We get taka away but not a lot as we are not that much into it.

hi ronnyb nope I no longer cook, he he no I am now living in a retirement center Gold Crest and all the food is cooked for us by the kitchen staff. we oftenhave something light on the weekends so the staff can at least half of them take that time off, like sandwiches for example. Where are you at? this sounds really exotic.

I had a big family of 5 children, now there are only 3 living at home so when I cook it usually is enough to care over for another meal. I have a habbit of cooking up goodies and meals over the weekend so the weekday isn't so stressed for time. Like today I'm making enchiladias and chocolate chip muffins. I saved back some of the meat from the enchiladias and on Wednesday we'll have pizza. These two things will keep us running from Monday through Friday. Sometimes On a Friday I'll put a roast in the oven or pork chops in the crockpot and then any meat left over goes into a casserole or soup later on. There are days that I don't cook, but I always make more food than we need becaues it carries over to the next day. There are times when I"m running errands and as a treat pick up fast food. This is usually the kid's favorite, which is Burger King. I think it's nice to treat yourself and your family off and on. Makes you appreciate it as a special time.

Since I only have to cook for two people, I only make one pot meals that will last for the day. When I go grocery shopping and I am too tired, I buy roasted chicken or Lechon Manok. I don't really like to slave in the kitchen, but I can make a great pasta when I want to .

I don’t cook on weekends we make do with take away or barbecues. I hate cooking but I have to do it, it’s a survival thing (LOL) I cook ‘proper’ meals twice a week and every other day I stick to really simple stuff like eggs, pasta, fish cakes etc. When my husband is away on business my daughter and I have been known to survive on TV dinners and fish fingers! We don’t have a bad diet considering that I don’t like to cook. There is always plenty of salad and fruit in the fridge for quick snacks and meals.

I like to cook everyday, I don't like to buy the jerk or smoked meat from the seasoanl vendors, I like to have fresh meat and buy it from the super market, then I will cook it in my kitchen. Though it didn't have many dishes, but it looks very delicious.
