Due to the improper shut downs, some of the boot files might have been corrupted in your system and that's why it is happening like this.You may try to repair the operating system instead of formatting the entire drives.There will be a option for repairing the OS in the windows boot disk and you may try for that.Also it will be much better for other to give some suggestions if the problem you are facing is fully explained.

Hi!
You may be 100% correct at one angle. But the real issue was not clearly explained by the dude. It may be difficult to us to give proper solution.
As per my assumption, if the pc suffering with boot sector viruses, even if we do repair that may not give much action against the problem.
So better run boot time virus scanner and detect any viruses effected to your MBR, if not what the solution you have described works perfectly.
