Even though the Obamas wasted massive taxpayer dollars lobbying the International Olympic Committee to bring their traveling show to Chicago, Obama's adopted home town hit the chopping block before it really got started.
No star power for the Obama's there.
I guess it's too bad the Olympic Committee got their hands slapped around after bring exposed for their corruption in Salt Lake City. If it was still all about bribes and corruption, Obama and Chicago style politics would have it in the bag.

So we can't get help in Iraq, they won't do anything about Iran or North Korea, and they won't listen to his advice on their economies (and they shouldn't). Now they won't even let the Olympics take place in his home town, a beautiful bed of crime, gang activity, and political corruption. So what exactly is the benefit of having these Europeans like us? Is being "popular" really worth it?

The Salt Lake incident may also be an influencing factor, though I do not understand why the US president found it neccesary to make an appearance. On the other hand, if the president got hint that the US would be out and decided to accompany the first lady to lessen the burden of disappointment, then good for him (though I still wish that much money had not been spent for the bid, as if it were a first time attempt for the nation)!

Think about that. They were both planning on going, but they took separate aircraft (with full security and follow on detail) on separate days. Not only did the make this useless trip on taxpayer money, they almost doubled the cost of it for no real reason.

After all the work Obama put in, degrading the United States, just to get the Europeans to like us. This should teach him that their approval or disapproval should mean nothing to him. What should matter is what is best for the USA.

I don't think they took too kindly to King Obama, His Queen, and the Dutchess of Harpo County marching in like their mere presence would cause every voter to get thrills up their leg.
I've been racking my brain thinking for the past hour: how much influence does Obama have?

Last Year, Obama had a great fall... but this summer and fall, it's pretty much sucked to be Obama.

I was actually pretty surprised to see that Obama was going to make a personal appearance vying for the olympics, in his hometown no less. I was always hoping that Rio would get it, South America deserves a shot at hosting the Olympics, especially considering how much better they are at soccer than us silly Americans who prefer American football.
If you think about what it means for infrastructure and global status, the US doesn't need to host an olympic game anytime soon. I say let's give the infrastructure and status to a country that actually needs it and who never had a chance to host a game before.

What does them being better than us at soccer have to do with it? We'll be number 1 or 2 in the medal count. They can have soccer.
Also, Chicago doesn't have the infrastructure for the Olympics. The national government would throw our tax dollars at it to help them out.
